Chapter 339: A Hairโ€™s Breadth from Ruin

โ€œWhere is she?โ€ Johnathanโ€™s expression was terrifying, sending a chill through everyone around him. Mateo and the others were visibly shaken, and Quinn, clearly nervous, stammered, โ€œShe was just here! When I left, she was right here!โ€

Johnathan shot her a sharp glare, as if on the verge of saying something, but Stone quickly intervened. โ€œLetโ€™s find her first!โ€

Johnathan swallowed his rage and began searching. The birthday party was being held at the Treno familyโ€™s private estate. It wasnโ€™t huge, but it wasnโ€™t exactly small either. Stone had already contacted estate security and confirmed that no one had left the premises. Mateo and Draven were also scouring the grounds.

With every minute that passed, Johnathanโ€™s face grew darker, and tension gripped the rest of them. If something really had happenedโ€ฆ They didnโ€™t dare follow that thought.

Just as Johnathan was spiraling into panic, he suddenly heard something. He rushed toward the sound without hesitation. Mateo and the others exchanged glances before quickly following. They saw Johnathan come to a sudden haltโ€”his body stiffenedโ€”then immediately tore off his jacket. The others couldnโ€™t see clearly, only catching a glimpse of Sierraโ€™s foot. Quinn let out a gasp and cried out, โ€œSierra!โ€

As soon as she spoke, Johnathan whipped around and shot her a glare more terrifying than any she had ever seen. She instinctively stepped back. Even the others were rattled by Johnathanโ€™s rage. Finally, Stone braced himself and said, โ€œWe have to get her to a hospitalโ€”now!โ€

Johnathan scooped Sierra into his arms, and if one looked closely, theyโ€™d see his hands trembling. The group rushed to the hospital. Johnathan stood outside the emergency room, his expression unreadable.

Maddox arrived after calming the rest of the guests. He was about to ask what had happened when Draven pulled him aside. Draven shook his head. โ€œDonโ€™t go over just yet.โ€ No one knew Sierraโ€™s condition yet, and Draven was afraid Johnathan would lash out. After all, this happened at Maddoxโ€™s event.

โ€œDid you look into it?โ€ Draven asked in a low voice.

โ€œThere are no cameras in that area,โ€ Maddox said with a deep frown. So they still didnโ€™t know what exactly had happenedโ€”but judging from everyoneโ€™s expressions, it had to be serious. All Maddox could hope for now was that Sierra would be okay.

Johnathan didnโ€™t register any of what was happening around him. His eyes remained locked on the emergency room doors, his mind replaying what he had just seen.

Soon, the doctor came out. โ€œThe patient is stable. Sheโ€™s still unconscious due to traces of drugs in her system. Weโ€™ve treated her wounds and examined her. There are no signs of assault, but the injuries are extensiveโ€”most likely from struggling. Also, thereโ€™s a bite mark on her wrist. Weโ€™ve sent the saliva sample for testing, but the results arenโ€™t back yet.โ€

Before the doctor even finished, Johnathan had already pushed past and gone inside to see Sierra. The others felt their hearts sink. Maddox was especially stunned. He had only invited people he trustedโ€”there shouldnโ€™t have been any issues. And yet, something had gone terribly wrong. He had no idea how to face either Johnathan or Sierra now.

Quinn, standing off to the side, began to sob softly. โ€œHow did this happen? I shouldnโ€™t have left. If I hadnโ€™t left, she wouldnโ€™t have gotten hurt.โ€

Mateo tried to comfort her. โ€œItโ€™s not your fault. Whoever did this came prepared.โ€

Nearby, Draven turned to the doctor. โ€œIโ€™ll need a copy of the toxicology report.โ€ He wanted to know exactly what drug had been usedโ€”and he knew Johnathan would demand to see it too.

Stone stepped away to make some calls, and Maddox got busy as well. He had to give Johnathan and Sierra an explanation for what had happened. Mateo began checking the other surveillance cameras, hoping to spot anything suspicious.

Quinn watched the others for a moment, then quietly moved toward the hospital room. Draven quickly stepped in front of her. โ€œDonโ€™t go.โ€ He shook his head. โ€œLet them have a moment.โ€ Right now, Johnathan was a ticking time bombโ€”no one knew when he might explode.

Quinn bit her lip. โ€œI just feel so awful.โ€ She lowered her head. Draven sighed, thinking she was overwhelmed with guiltโ€”unaware that what Quinn really felt was frustration. Frustration that her plan had failed.
