Chapter 329: The Truth Beneath the Surface
Shane made no effort to hide his interest in Sierra, wearing a smile filled with intrigue. โDoesnโt that make it even more fun? Turning the impossible into possibleโthatโs what I enjoy most.โ
Over the next few days, Sierra and her team, including Autumn, focused intensely on researching the mutations in Quinn and Doraโs blood and potential methods to suppress them. Thanks to the medication Jonathan had administered, their blood reports were significantly different now. The progression of the disease had clearly slowed, and the mutated cells seemed to be under partial control.
โWhat did you use?โ Erwin asked in awe.
โIt wasnโt me,โ Sierra replied, shaking her head. Jonathan had been the one to find the drug. He hadnโt mentioned the specifics, and she hadnโt askedโbut she hadnโt expected the results to be this effective.
For some reason, she suddenly remembered the questionable research Shane had shown her in the pastโstudies that broke several rules. Heโd claimed they were Jonathanโs. At the time, Sierra hadnโt believed a word. But nowโฆ she felt her certainty waver.
No one else noticed her shift in expression. Most of them were huge fans of Jonathanโespecially Erwin, who immediately said, โThatโs why Mr. Yeager is the best! Incredible!โ
Sierra pressed her lips together. She decided sheโd ask Jonathan tonight exactly what kind of treatment he had used.
Meanwhile, Jonathan had already uncovered some troubling information. With it in hand, he knocked on Quinnโs door.
โJonathan!โ Quinn looked genuinely happy to see him. โYouโre so busy with workโwhy did you come all the way here?โ
Jonathan didnโt get to the point right away. Instead, he asked, โWhereโs Dora?โ
โIn her room, drawing.โ
Jonathan went to check. Seeing that Dora truly was sitting quietly with her sketchpad, he softly shut the door behind him. Keeping his voice calm, mindful that a child was in the house, he asked evenly, โEven now, you still wonโt say anything?โ
Quinnโs expression shifted. She avoided his gaze completely. โJonathan, what are you expecting me to say?โ
Jonathan stared at her coldly, his eyes narrowing as she grew increasingly flustered. โI really donโt know what youโre talking about.โ
He looked disappointed. โTell me about Timothy.โ
At the mention of the name, Quinnโs entire demeanor changed. She bit her lip. โI donโt want to talk about him.โ
โWhy not?โ Jonathanโs voice dropped, cold and firm. โBecause you killed him, didnโt you?โ
Quinn froze. Then her eyes widened in shock. โHeโs dead? NoโJonathan, you think I did it?โ
Jonathan watched her face closely. The surprise in her reaction seemed genuine. No panic. No guilt. Just confusion.
That meant she didnโt know. Or Timothy wasnโt actually dead. The information heโd received said that Quinnโs ex-husbandโTimothyโhad disappeared completely. Vanished without a trace. That was why Jonathan had suspected he was dead. And if so, that Quinn was involved. Why else would she suddenly come back?
Jonathan looked away briefly. โI didnโt want to. But your return has been strange. And then thereโs the blood disorder. You avoided the topic altogether. Tests are standard before pregnancyโif you already had the condition, you wouldnโt have gone through with it. That means you got infected after giving birth to Dora.โ
He continued, โIf it were just you, maybe it could be explained. But Dora has it too. Tell meโhow does a three-year-old end up with the same condition?โ
His questions came one after another, relentless, and Quinnโs face grew increasingly pained. After a long silence, she finally said, โJonathan, I wasnโt trying to keep anything from you. I just didnโt know how to explain it. You have no ideaโฆ after everything that happened, the one thing I regretted the most was not listening to you back then.โ
She went on, โYou told me Timothy wasnโt right for me. I didnโt listen. I even got angry at you, and we stopped talking for a long time. Later, I wanted to reach out, but I couldnโt. You thought I was still holding a grudgeโbut the truth is, I had no choice.โ
Quinn took a deep breath. โTimothy was a genetic researcher. When I met him, he was obsessed with his work. I didnโt think that was a bad thingโI didnโt need constant companionship. But what I never imaginedโฆ was that heโd go so far as to experiment on me. And on Dora.โ
