Chapter 276: Like Hell He Regrets It

Jonathan had no intention of telling Sierra how much that whole thing had secretly thrilled him. Theyโ€™d been going at it all night. Jonathan had been completely unhingedโ€”Sierra couldnโ€™t handle him at all. Sheโ€™d hit him, cursed at him, even cried while begging him to stop, but Jonathan had no plans of letting up. In fact, the more she cried, the more excited he got.

By the time Sierra finally showed up at the lab the next morning, she was lateโ€”and got hit with a death glare from her professor. Summer clothes didnโ€™t hide much, and even the lab coat couldnโ€™t cover the mess heโ€™d left. The marks on her neck, behind her earsโ€ฆ way too obvious.

Professor Martin gave her a long, complicated look before muttering, โ€œYou kids really need to take it easy.โ€ Then he couldnโ€™t help adding, โ€œThat guyโ€™s a menace. Donโ€™t go spoiling him.โ€

Sierra had never been more embarrassed in her lifeโ€”talking about this stuff with her professor, of all people. She agreed with him, though. Jonathan was absolutely a menace. So she made a unilateral decision to give him the silent treatment.

Thankfully, after that one comment, Professor Martin didnโ€™t say much else. He went right back to yelling at other students. Sierraโ€™s research was the least of his worries. The last time he saw that level of talent was in Jonathanโ€”that damn troublemaker.

Thinking of Jonathanโ€™s true nature when he let his guard down, Professor Martin gave Sierra a worried glance. She was deep in her work and didnโ€™t notice.

Jonathan knew heโ€™d gone too far the night before. Heโ€™d never lost control like that. But just thinking about Sierraโ€™s online postโ€”how she basically told the world she had no plans to replace himโ€”sent another jolt of excitement through him. Did that mean forever? The thought caught him off guard.

Being with Sierra had always felt natural. Heโ€™d been drawn to her from the start. But forever? That was a long time. He hadnโ€™t thought that far ahead. He wasnโ€™t usually into long-term things. Even in his research, it wasnโ€™t so much about the pursuit of knowledgeโ€”it was about the rush. The thrill. It was the only way to keep the emptiness at bay.

But now? When he imagined spending forever with Sierra? It didnโ€™t sound bad at all. He could see himself loving her for a long time. Marriage, thoughโ€ฆ he could wait on that. He still needed to figure out his own heart.

Maybe thatโ€™s why he stopped by her favorite bakery for cake and picked up some barbecue, too. He was planning to pick her up after work. Otherwise, she might not come home at all. Her face that morning had been like a thundercloud.

Still, Jonathan didnโ€™t regret a single thing. If he could do it all over again, heโ€™d probably go even harder.

Of course, he wasnโ€™t going to let Sierra know that. He was still in a great moodโ€ฆ until he pulled up to the lab and saw Jose. His smile vanished on the spot.

Jose didnโ€™t dodge him like usual. This time, he walked straight up. โ€œDid you really steal the Wynn Group project?โ€ he asked flatly.

โ€œI did.โ€

Jonathan stared at him without flinching. โ€œYou here to pick a fight?โ€

Joseโ€™s face twisted with pain. โ€œCanโ€™t we just coexist? You are my bro! I wasnโ€™t trying to take anything from you, Iโ€”โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not that important,โ€ Jonathan cut him off coldly. โ€œTake something from me? You think you could?โ€

Seeing Joseโ€™s face go pale, Jonathan sneered, โ€œYou think I donโ€™t know what youโ€™ve been up to?โ€ If you really didnโ€™t want anything, you wouldnโ€™t be trying so hard to get attention.

โ€œAnd one more thing. Stop calling me โ€˜bro.โ€™ I wonโ€™t say it again.โ€

With that, he brushed past Jose and walked into the lab. Jose stood there for a long moment, face full of pain. His hands curled into fists at his sides. After a while, he muttered, โ€œYouโ€™re the one who pushed me. I didnโ€™t want it to be like this.โ€ Then he turned to glance at the building before walking away.

When Jonathan walked inside, no one stopped him. His face was practically a hall pass. Even though he hadnโ€™t been a student at North Salem for years, his records had never been deleted. He was still a point of pride for the university.

And right now, that pride of the university was getting absolutely chewed out by Professor Martin. Heโ€™d been going at it for a solid thirty minutes. Autumn and the others were frozen in silence. The manโ€™s firepower was too much for any of them.

Jonathan, though, didnโ€™t seem to care. He even laughed. โ€œHavenโ€™t seen you in years, and youโ€™ve still got that iron lung. Impressive.โ€

โ€œImpressive, my ass!โ€ Professor Martin jabbed a finger at his most infamous student. โ€œYou havenโ€™t come back to see me once all these years! I taught you everything, step by step. And now what? You forgot this old man existed? If it wasnโ€™t for your girlfriend, youโ€™d still be ghosting me!โ€
