Chapter 250: The Name He Never Told Her

Mateo immediately realized he had said too much. His expression turned uneasy, and Maddox quickly stepped in. โ€œHe took his motherโ€™s last name,โ€ Maddox explained smoothly.

โ€œI see,โ€ Sierra nodded, not pressing the issue. Mateo and the others, however, were still unsettledโ€”especially Mateo. He had no idea if Jonathan had deliberately kept this from Sierra. And if Jonathan found out that he was the one who let it slipโ€ฆ Mateo didnโ€™t even want to imagine the consequences.

Noticing his panic, Sierra chuckled. โ€œI didnโ€™t hear anything. Donโ€™t worry.โ€ Hearing her say that made Mateo feel even guiltier.

Screw it. Since the secret was already out, he might as well go all in. โ€œItโ€™s not a big deal,โ€ he admitted. โ€œItโ€™s just that not many people know about his real name, and he doesnโ€™t like using it.โ€ He then added, โ€œSierra, you and Jon are together. If you ask him, he wonโ€™t keep it from you.โ€

Sierra only smiled in response. Before, she had always thought she knew Jonathan well. She was aware that there were things he didnโ€™t reveal, but she had never minded. She had even tolerated his controlling tendencies. But now, she realized how little she actually knew about him. She didnโ€™t even know his real name. If one day Jonathan disappeared, she wouldnโ€™t even know where to start looking for him. She had never thought about it before. But now that she was in Capital City, she was beginning to see all the gaps between them.

Maddox, ever the perceptive one, could tell that todayโ€™s conversation had planted doubts in Sierraโ€™s mind. He immediately reassured her, โ€œSierra, donโ€™t overthink it. Itโ€™s not like weโ€™re hiding anything. Itโ€™s just that some things are better for him to tell you himself.โ€ He added, โ€œIf he hasnโ€™t mentioned it before, itโ€™s probably because he doesnโ€™t think itโ€™s important. His family is big, but there arenโ€™t many people he actually cares about.โ€

To be exact, the only person Jonathan truly cared about in his family was Wayne Wynn. As for his biological father? Jonathan couldnโ€™t care less.

โ€œYeah, Sierra, thatโ€™s all there is to it. Donโ€™t read too much into it,โ€ Mateo said, wanting to smack his past self for talking too much. Sierra smiled and went along with the change in topic. She casually asked about the Maviston situation, and Maddox shared what he could.

โ€œKason was sentenced to death. Itโ€™ll be carried out soon. His father and several other key figures were also sentenced, including the deputy warden and a few prison officials. As for Shane, he left no evidence behind.โ€

โ€œKason didnโ€™t turn on him?โ€ Sierra asked, surprised.

Maddox shook his head. โ€œNo. The Richardson family took full responsibility. Kason claimed everything was on him.โ€ Otherwise, Kasonโ€™s father wouldnโ€™t have escaped execution either. That genuinely surprised Sierra. Kason, taking all the blame? That kind of personโ€”who only ever looked out for himselfโ€”was capable of something like that?

Seeing her disbelief, Maddox added, โ€œThe Richardson family isnโ€™t just him and his father. There are others. And Kason does have things he cares about.โ€

โ€œThat kind of scum actually has a weakness?โ€ Sierra let out a cold laugh. She rarely showed strong emotions, but true disgust always broke through. For her to openly express such hatred toward Kason showed just how much she despised him.

โ€œKasonโ€™s not stupid. By taking all the blame, at least his family can survive. Otherwise, their fate wouldโ€™ve been even worse,โ€ Maddox said. After a slight hesitation, he added, โ€œAnd based on what we found, Shane truly had no involvement in this. At most, he knew about it.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible.โ€ Sierra rejected it instantly. โ€œHe was involved.โ€ She could never forget the suffering she endured during those three years. Maddox didnโ€™t argue.

They sat around for a while longer before eventually leaving. Once they were gone, Dickson hesitated as if he wanted to say something. He had overheard everything Maddox and the others had said. He didnโ€™t think things were as simple as they made it seem, but he didnโ€™t know how to put it into words.

Sierra noticed and gave him a small smile. โ€œAlright, letโ€™s eat.โ€ The gathering was canceled, but that didnโ€™t mean they had to waste a good meal.

As they ate, Sierra took out her phone and sent Jonathan a message. She wasnโ€™t surprised when she didnโ€™t receive a reply. She thought back to the name Mateo had accidentally let slip. She pressed her lips together. Even she knew about the Wynn family. A family that had existed for centuries, with an international reputation. Soโ€ฆ Jonathan was part of that Wynn family? She had always suspected that his background was extraordinary.

She let out a small laugh. Surprisingly, she didnโ€™t feel any pressure from the revelation. Maybe itโ€™s because Iโ€™ve always known there was an ocean between us. Jonathanโ€™s background could be as shocking as it wantedโ€”it didnโ€™t change a thing. He was still out of her reach.

Meanwhile, in the hospital, Jonathan sat with a furrowed brow, reviewing Wayne Wynnโ€™s medical reports.
