Chapter 233: Nowhere to Run

Kavon couldnโ€™t sit still for another second. He grabbed his keys and stormed out, dialing as he drove straight to the prison. On the line was the head of security for the Richardson family, one of their most trusted men.

โ€œAny issues at the base?โ€

โ€œNone. Why?โ€

โ€œTell everyone to stay alert. Also, go to my office right now and check for any cameras.โ€

โ€œUnderstood, sir. Iโ€™ll take care of it immediately.โ€

โ€œOne more thing: Get everything ready for a full evacuation. Wait for my call for further instructions.โ€

With that, Kason hung up. He had to confirm whether Shane was behind this. If not, then things were much worse than he thought.

When he reached the prison, he found out Shane was no longer there. He had already completed the transition process and stopped coming altogether. Kasonโ€™s expression darkened as he sought out the deputy warden.

โ€œMr. Kason, looking for another prisoner?โ€

The deputy warden frowned. โ€œArenโ€™t you coming here a little too often lately!โ€

The Richardson family had always dealt with the deputy warden instead of Shane, despite being the official warden. Shane rarely handled anything himself.

โ€œDo you know where Shane lives?โ€ Kason asked.

โ€œI think heโ€™s in Windmillville.โ€

Kason got no answer and turned to leave, but a thought struck him, and he stopped. โ€œSierra was imprisoned here, wasnโ€™t she?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ The deputy warden didnโ€™t know why he was asking but answered anyway.

Eason asked suddenly, โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for the warden, Sierra wouldโ€™ve been dead long ago.โ€

The deputy warden shrugged. โ€œThere were several times when he took her out of here.โ€

Kasonโ€™s expression changed. โ€œWhose ideaโ€ฆ?โ€

The deputy warden hesitated before answering. โ€œSomeone paid for her to be tortured. If I had to guess, it was that fake heiress.โ€ The Xander familyโ€™s scandal had been huge, so he had heard bits and pieces. Kason hadnโ€™t expected her to be so ruthless. But what shocked him even more was the fact that Sierra and Shane had some kind of connection. Shane had saved herโ€”more than once. Something wasnโ€™t adding up. He felt like he was missing a crucial piece of the puzzle.

Just then, his phone rang.

โ€œMr. Kason, the security chief reportedโ€ฆ We found two cameras in your office.โ€

โ€œOne was hidden in the doorframe. The otherโ€ฆ under your desk.โ€

His desk. Kason instantly remembered Sierraโ€™s gaze that day. She had been looking at his desk. Had she known about it then? Or worseโ€”had she planted them herself? No. The photos were from before that. Kason bit his tongue, forcing himself to stay calm. Then, he gave the order.

โ€œEvacuate immediately. If necessary, destroy everything. No evidence can remain.โ€

Hanging up, he sped toward Windmillville. He arrived just in time to see Shane walking out of his house with a suitcase.

โ€œMr. Goodman!โ€ Kason rushed forward to block his path.

โ€œMr. Eason.โ€ Shane barely glanced at him.

โ€œSomething you need?โ€

Kason hated that attitude. Shane looked at everyone like they were beneath him.

He had heard the rumors about Shaneโ€™s reputation and had dealt with him a few times, but he still couldnโ€™t figure him out. That unpredictability made him dangerous.

Kason swallowed his irritation and asked, โ€œDid you send those photos?โ€

Shane smirked. The way he looked at Kason made it clearโ€”he thought he was an idiot. But he didnโ€™t answer the question. Instead, he said, โ€œIf I were you, I wouldnโ€™t be wasting time figuring out where the photos came from. Iโ€™d be figuring out how to get out of this mess.โ€

โ€œSo it was you.โ€ Kasonโ€™s eyes turned cold. โ€œIf I go down, donโ€™t think youโ€™ll get away either.โ€

Shaneโ€™s only response was a mocking laugh. โ€œI have no idea what youโ€™re talking about.โ€

โ€œYou seem a little paranoid. Maybe you should see a doctor. I know a few good onesโ€”Iโ€™d be happy to refer you.โ€

Kasonโ€™s breath hitched. For the first time, he felt afraid. Shane was smiling. His tone was casual, even friendly, but Kason could feel itโ€”that unmistakable chill crawling up his spine. He instinctively took a step back.

Shane chuckled. โ€œWell, if thatโ€™s all, Iโ€™ll be going now.โ€ He took a few steps, then suddenly stopped. โ€œOh, right. The offer still stands if you need that doctorโ€™s contact info.โ€

With that, he rolled his suitcase away without looking back.
