Chapter 222: The Trap is Set

After finishing her grandmotherโ€™s farewell, Sierra smiled. โ€œGrandma would have been happy.โ€ Johnathan pulled her into a hug, his heart aching for her. This girl always made him want to hold her closer. Now that her grandmother was gone, Sierra felt a heavy burden lift. Her next goal was clearโ€”Kason.

In the meantime, Stone had visited once. Thatโ€™s when Sierra learned his true identity. He couldnโ€™t stay in Maviston longโ€”his presence alone was too conspicuousโ€”but he left behind trusted men. โ€œTheyโ€™re reliable,โ€ he assured her. They couldnโ€™t use local forces, so they had to reach beyond their usual channels. It was a bold move, but Stone assured her there wouldnโ€™t be any issues.

With everything in place, Sierra took the next stepโ€”she contacted Kason. โ€œTake me to that place from last time,โ€ she said. โ€œI want to see what youโ€™re really working with.โ€ Kason sounded thrilled. โ€œOf course. Youโ€™re going to love it!โ€

Just like before, she was blindfolded as soon as she got into the car. But this time, Sierra was more prepared. She had her own precautions in place. The earrings she wore werenโ€™t just for showโ€”she had the full matching set today. Necklace, too. It was a safety net. She also had weapons hidden in her bagโ€”tools that Stone had assured her wouldnโ€™t be detected.

As soon as she stepped into the car, Johnathan, Mateo, and Stoneโ€™s men sprang into action, tracking her in real-time. Johnathan remained tense. Mateo tried to reassure him. โ€œRelax, Johnathan. We have the location. Sheโ€™s got weapons. And weโ€™re not striking todayโ€”weโ€™re just gathering intel.โ€ Still, Johnathan said nothing. For some reason, he couldnโ€™t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Inside the building, Sierra moved with confidence. She wasnโ€™t worried about being discovered. Sure enough, none of the security checks detected anything on her. She ran her fingers through her hair, lightly brushing her earring. A sigual. She was inside.

Kason, arrogant as ever, didnโ€™t think twice about the gesture. He was too busy admiring her. โ€œYou like that kind of jewelry?โ€ he asked, glancing at her earrings. They were sapphireโ€”expensive, but not outrageously so. โ€œI have a few top-tier emeralds,โ€ he continued. โ€œI can get you a full set made. Green would look great on your skin.โ€ For a second, Sierraโ€™s heart pounded. Had he noticed something? But then she realizedโ€”no. He was just trying to impress her. Typical. She forced a smile. โ€œKeep it like what I have now.โ€

In the surveillance van, Mateo chuckled. โ€œDamn, Johnathan. Your rival is outdoing you. The guyโ€™s already offering her jewelry, and you still havenโ€™t given her anything.โ€ Johnathan shot him a cold look. Mateo shivered. โ€œFine, fine. You provide the materials, Iโ€™ll craft something better.โ€ The vanโ€™s temperature seemed to return to normal. Mateo clicked his tongue. Kason really didnโ€™t know what kind of hell he was about to walk into.

Meanwhile, Kason led Sierra into the office. Sierra instantly felt sick. She remembered this place too well. She knew there were cameras; she just had to find them. Kason was talking, but she wasnโ€™t really listening. She was thinking about Shane. He was a textbook psychopath. Where would he put the cameras? She recalled the videos. She had to pinpoint the angle. Her gaze flickered toward the computer across from the bed.

โ€œYou looking for something?โ€ Kason had caught her staring. He followed her gaze but only saw his computer. โ€œNothing,โ€ Sierra said smoothly. Then she glanced back at him. โ€œWhen do I get to see this big surprise of yours?โ€ Kason raised a brow. โ€œYou seem eager today.โ€ It was a test. Sierra didnโ€™t flinch. โ€œI donโ€™t like wasting time.โ€
