Chapter 200: A Tense Encounter

Sierraโ€™s lips twitched slightly; she felt like she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Netizens had done a thorough job digging up dirt, exposing every trivial detail about James and Yulia. With people hassling them daily, the couple couldnโ€™t stand it any longer and had sneaked away at night. Their numbers had been unblocked, but calling them just led to a shutdown notification.

Unable to find them, Sierra was about to head home when she unexpectedly ran into Kason. At the sight of Kason, Sierraโ€™s body tensed immediately.

โ€œAre you following me?โ€

Sierra knew which buttons to push with Kason. Sure enough, her confrontational stance made him back down instantly.

โ€œItโ€™s not following; my people were just keeping an eye out here, trying to help you get back at them. But those two slipped away too fast; we didnโ€™t catch them,โ€ Kason said with a smile. Remembering his secret research facility, Sierraโ€™s pupils contracted. James and Yulia were the kind of people who could disappear without anyone knowing, fitting perfectly with Kasonโ€™s requirements.

โ€œI donโ€™t need your help,โ€ Sierra said coldly.

Kason wasnโ€™t upset; he actually liked Sierraโ€™s fiery spirit.

โ€œSince weโ€™ve bumped into each other, let me ask how youโ€™ve considered the matter from the other day?โ€ Kason inquired. Sierra had already planned her response. โ€œNot now, I donโ€™t have the time.โ€

She intended to keep Kason on hold, hoping to see if Jonathan and Dickson could dig up more dirt. If they could, she wouldnโ€™t need to keep playing along with Kason. And truly, she didnโ€™t have the time to spar with him right now.

After she spoke, she turned to leave, but then she heard Kason, โ€œIs it because of your grandmother? I heard she doesnโ€™t have much time left?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve been checking up on me!โ€ Sierra made her displeasure quite apparent, pretending to be provoked.

Kason quickly raised his hands in defense, โ€œNo, it just came up in conversation.โ€

Who mentioned it? Sierra wondered.

โ€œBut itโ€™s good I heard it! I might have a way to save your grandmother.โ€

Kasonโ€™s words interrupted Sierraโ€™s thoughts, and she sharply turned to face him. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€

โ€œI said, I might have a way to save your grandmother,โ€ Kason repeated slowly.

Sierraโ€™s first reaction was disbelief; she thought Kason was deceiving her. But her second thought was of Kasonโ€™s involvement in illicit drug research, which might actually mean he had a way. She couldnโ€™t deny being tempted; at that moment, Sierra wavered.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the catch?โ€ Sierra asked.

Kason smiled and said nothing, only suggesting, โ€œThis isnโ€™t the place to talk. I have to go, but if you decide, come find me.โ€

With that, Kason walked away, feeling somewhat triumphant. After so many interactions where heโ€™d been manipulated, he finally felt he had the upper hand.

Lily was anxious and hesitant, and she didnโ€™t notice Sierraโ€™s preoccupation with Kasonโ€™s words. Sierra was overwhelmed and eager to talk to someone about it. Normally, Jonathan would have been back by now, but he was nowhere to be found, and his phone went unanswered.

At that moment, Jonathan had driven far enough and finally stopped. He then called Mateo to pick him up, throwing his phone onto the passenger seat and casually shedding his coat and suit jacket, loosening his cuffs. As he watched four well-built men exit a following car, their posture betraying their training, Jonathan narrowed his eyes and cracked a slight smile before stepping out of his car.

โ€œOne at a time, or all at once?โ€ As he rolled up his sleeves, he asked casually.

The four men exchanged a glance, anger in their eyes at being so underestimated. They were cautious operators, tasked with bringing back a hand of the target, and couldnโ€™t afford to screw up. Thus, they charged at Jonathan together.

Maddox and the others hadnโ€™t left yet; they were still causing trouble for Shane. Receiving Jonathanโ€™s call, they decided to head over together. When they arrived, Jonathan was leaning against his car smoking, four men lying motionless near him, their condition unknown.

โ€œWhat happened to the car?โ€ Stone asked.
