Chapter 179: Past Pains
โJonathan, what are you doing?โ Sierra finally spoke, prompting Jonathan to look up at her calmly and say, โThat scumbag touched you just now.โ
Sierra froze, startled by Jonathanโs words and the unmistakable ferocity in his eyes. โJonathan!โ she exclaimed, unable to help herself. Jonathan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, tossed the wipe he was holding, and leaned in towards Sierraโs swollen lips.
Sierra felt like her lips werenโt her own anymoreโthey hurt, they felt numb. She couldnโt help but look down at Jonathan, who was still obsessively wiping her hands. She didnโt realize a person could be so fixated on cleanliness. Moreover, the heavy mood surrounding Jonathan hadnโt dissipated; it was clear he was still upset. Sierra quickly changed the subject. โDid you manage to track the location? Did you get it on camera!โ
She had been terrified moments ago, worried that her earrings would be discovered, but they turned out to be more reliable than she had expected and hadnโt been detected. โI was always close by,โ she added. For fear of being discovered, he had parked the car in a concealed spot, capturing everything on camera. During the security check, Mateo had turned off all tracking, making them just ordinary earrings.
โThis equipment was made by a friend of mine; you canโt buy it anywhere. Ordinary devices canโt detect it!โ Jonathan briefly explained. The gear was supplied exclusively by military intelligence; ordinary people couldnโt get their hands on it.
โDo we have enough to bring him to justice now?โ Sierra asked, then shook her head as she answered her own question. โNo, that wonโt work! If it gets discovered, everything there will self-destruct!โ Then weโd have nothing!
โForget about it for now; just rest a bit,โ Jonathan advised. Sierra was indeed exhausted. The back-and-forth with Kason had left her completely tense, and once she relaxed, she felt overwhelmingly tired, yet she couldnโt sleep. The dayโs events had shocked her too much. Although she hadnโt seen the Hurhan experiments with her own eyes, she could imagine them.
In Kasonโs eyes, those peopleโs lives werenโt worth anything. The videos Shane had shown her were just the opening act.
Wait, the videos! Sierra suddenly sat upright, blurting out, โKasonโs office has surveillance equipment. If we could find it and hack into it, could we gather more evidence of his crimes?โ She hadnโt thought of this before, but it now occurred to her.
โIn theory, yes! But why would he install cameras in his own office?โ Jonathan was skeptical that Kason would be that foolish.
โIt wasnโt him; someone else placed them there. I saw videos of him torturing girls in that office!โ Sierra unwittingly revealed something she had kept hidden.
โVideos? What videos?โ Jonathanโs eyebrows lifted as he looked at her, and Sierra realized her slip-up. After hesitating, she decided not to hide it anymore and explained,
Kasonโs behavior in the videosโhe clearly doesnโt know about the cameras. So, he definitely wonโt be cautious. Maybe heโll talk about something in his office ifโฆ
She was interrupted by Jonathan before she could finish. โShane? Why would he show you those things?โ Suddenly thinking of something, his expression darkened. โThat day in the car, he showed you these?โ
Jonathan was too sharp; knowing a little could lead him to figure out everything. Sierra could only nod in admission. โYes, that day in the car, I saw Kason torturing someone from the prison.โ
Jonathanโs expression turned grim instantly. He knew exactly what Sierra meant by torturing, and the idea that Shane had let Sierra watch such a thing with him was unsettling. He had heard of the infamous reputation of the Goodman family; he had ignored them before since they hadnโt crossed paths with him, but now it was different. The thought that Shane had shown Sierra such vile content made him want to do something sinister.
Sierra noticed Jonathanโs mood shift and couldnโt help but glance at him. Sensing her gaze, Jonathan closed his eyes to mask the darkness in his look, and then finally said, โTell me everything about Shane in detail, Sierra. Donโt hold anything back this time.โ
