Chapter 179: Past Pains

โ€œJonathan, what are you doing?โ€ Sierra finally spoke, prompting Jonathan to look up at her calmly and say, โ€œThat scumbag touched you just now.โ€

Sierra froze, startled by Jonathanโ€™s words and the unmistakable ferocity in his eyes. โ€œJonathan!โ€ she exclaimed, unable to help herself. Jonathan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, tossed the wipe he was holding, and leaned in towards Sierraโ€™s swollen lips.

Sierra felt like her lips werenโ€™t her own anymoreโ€”they hurt, they felt numb. She couldnโ€™t help but look down at Jonathan, who was still obsessively wiping her hands. She didnโ€™t realize a person could be so fixated on cleanliness. Moreover, the heavy mood surrounding Jonathan hadnโ€™t dissipated; it was clear he was still upset. Sierra quickly changed the subject. โ€œDid you manage to track the location? Did you get it on camera!โ€

She had been terrified moments ago, worried that her earrings would be discovered, but they turned out to be more reliable than she had expected and hadnโ€™t been detected. โ€œI was always close by,โ€ she added. For fear of being discovered, he had parked the car in a concealed spot, capturing everything on camera. During the security check, Mateo had turned off all tracking, making them just ordinary earrings.

โ€œThis equipment was made by a friend of mine; you canโ€™t buy it anywhere. Ordinary devices canโ€™t detect it!โ€ Jonathan briefly explained. The gear was supplied exclusively by military intelligence; ordinary people couldnโ€™t get their hands on it.

โ€œDo we have enough to bring him to justice now?โ€ Sierra asked, then shook her head as she answered her own question. โ€œNo, that wonโ€™t work! If it gets discovered, everything there will self-destruct!โ€ Then weโ€™d have nothing!

โ€œForget about it for now; just rest a bit,โ€ Jonathan advised. Sierra was indeed exhausted. The back-and-forth with Kason had left her completely tense, and once she relaxed, she felt overwhelmingly tired, yet she couldnโ€™t sleep. The dayโ€™s events had shocked her too much. Although she hadnโ€™t seen the Hurhan experiments with her own eyes, she could imagine them.

In Kasonโ€™s eyes, those peopleโ€™s lives werenโ€™t worth anything. The videos Shane had shown her were just the opening act.

Wait, the videos! Sierra suddenly sat upright, blurting out, โ€œKasonโ€™s office has surveillance equipment. If we could find it and hack into it, could we gather more evidence of his crimes?โ€ She hadnโ€™t thought of this before, but it now occurred to her.

โ€œIn theory, yes! But why would he install cameras in his own office?โ€ Jonathan was skeptical that Kason would be that foolish.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t him; someone else placed them there. I saw videos of him torturing girls in that office!โ€ Sierra unwittingly revealed something she had kept hidden.

โ€œVideos? What videos?โ€ Jonathanโ€™s eyebrows lifted as he looked at her, and Sierra realized her slip-up. After hesitating, she decided not to hide it anymore and explained,

Kasonโ€™s behavior in the videosโ€”he clearly doesnโ€™t know about the cameras. So, he definitely wonโ€™t be cautious. Maybe heโ€™ll talk about something in his office ifโ€ฆ

She was interrupted by Jonathan before she could finish. โ€œShane? Why would he show you those things?โ€ Suddenly thinking of something, his expression darkened. โ€œThat day in the car, he showed you these?โ€

Jonathan was too sharp; knowing a little could lead him to figure out everything. Sierra could only nod in admission. โ€œYes, that day in the car, I saw Kason torturing someone from the prison.โ€

Jonathanโ€™s expression turned grim instantly. He knew exactly what Sierra meant by torturing, and the idea that Shane had let Sierra watch such a thing with him was unsettling. He had heard of the infamous reputation of the Goodman family; he had ignored them before since they hadnโ€™t crossed paths with him, but now it was different. The thought that Shane had shown Sierra such vile content made him want to do something sinister.

Sierra noticed Jonathanโ€™s mood shift and couldnโ€™t help but glance at him. Sensing her gaze, Jonathan closed his eyes to mask the darkness in his look, and then finally said, โ€œTell me everything about Shane in detail, Sierra. Donโ€™t hold anything back this time.โ€
