Chapter 170: Leaving Maviston

She had never thought about leaving Maviston. โ€œYes! Leave! We can transfer Grandma to a better hospital, and when the medication is available, she can use it,โ€ Jonathan said.

โ€œLet me think about it!โ€ Sierra didnโ€™t reject the idea. Jonathanโ€™s words had opened up new possibilities for her. If she left Maviston, would she be able to escape everything here? Would all the bad things become a thing of the past?

It sounded tempting, but Sierra knew she had to think it through carefully because there were still things she hadnโ€™t settled yet. Jonathan didnโ€™t rush her. He was merely giving her a suggestion. The fact that Sierra was even considering it was already a good sign.

โ€œWhat do you want to eat?โ€ Jonathan pinched Sierraโ€™s earlobe as he asked.

For the past two days, they had been practically glued together. Jonathan wished Sierra would just move in with him. Perhaps because of the specific moment that morning, Sierra had been keeping her distance from Jonathan ever since. The moment she sensed anything unusual, she would immediately back away, as if he was about to devour her.

Jonathan found it amusing yet helpless. All he could do was suppress his usual nature and try his best to appear gentlemanly. However, Sierra, who already knew his true colors, wasnโ€™t so easily fooled.

Just as the two were discussing dinner, they suddenly heard a commotion outside. Among the voices, one of them was Dicksonโ€™s. They exchanged a glance, and Sierra quickly opened the door, only to see two people who shouldnโ€™t be thereโ€ฆ Evan and Sean. Dickson was blocking the entrance, refusing to let them in.

โ€œDickson!โ€ Sierra called out.

Hearing Sierraโ€™s voice, Dickson stopped blocking them and quickly ran to her side, complaining, โ€œThey want to see you again. I wouldnโ€™t let them.โ€

โ€œSierra, go back inside. Iโ€™ll handle this.โ€

Sierra had no intention of letting Dickson deal with the two brothers. Seeing them here didnโ€™t surprise her at all. She looked at them, but instead of the anger she had expected, their expressions were unreadable. Finally, Evan spoke up, โ€œWhat will it take for you to let Dad and Bradley go?โ€

Sierra paused for a moment before chuckling. โ€œYou think Iโ€™m the one pulling the strings? I donโ€™t have that kind of power. Thereโ€™s no point in coming to me. They broke the law, and their punishment is up to the law system.โ€

โ€œSierra, we know we were wrong before. We shouldnโ€™t have done those things, but weโ€™ve already been punished. Isnโ€™t that enough?โ€ Evanโ€™s voice was filled with pain. Over the past two days, he had finally understood the cruelty of the world. The ridicule, the disdain. He was suffocating. Yet, he had no choice but to endure it.

Sierra was tired of the Xander family membersโ€™ inability to comprehend simple facts. Ignoring them, she pushed Dickson back into the house and closed the door behind her.

โ€œWait!โ€ Evan, knowing how difficult it would be to see Sierra again, instinctively reached out to stop the door. Evan gasped in pain. Sierra looked at him coldly, thinking he must have lost his mind. Evan didnโ€™t care about the pain in his hand and quickly said, โ€œWhat will it take for you to agree? Do I have to get down on my knees and beg you?โ€

Evan glared at Sierra, his frustration boiling over. She had already crushed him and his family to rock bottom. "What more does the team want!?"

โ€œEvan!โ€ Jonathan spoke up before Sierra could respond. โ€œStop acting like your family is some kind of victim. This is just the start. When you threw her in prison back then, did you ever think about any of this? Why is it that when you do something, it doesnโ€™t seem extra, but when she does, you act like sheโ€™s committed some crime? And also, she hasnโ€™t even done anything. You keep pushing, that might change. Now leave!โ€

Jonathanโ€™s voice grew colder and colder. If Sierra hadnโ€™t stopped him from interfering, the Xander family wouldnโ€™t even have had the chance to stand in front of her right now.

Evan and Sean were completely intimidated by Jonathan, especially Evan. He had always seen Jonathan as his role model and had even studied his every move. But at this moment, he realized that he knew nothing about Jonathan at all. Jonathan wasnโ€™t as soft as he had imagined. He was powerful, ruthless, and exuded an undeniable danger. They had no doubt that Jonathan meant what he said.

Evan withdrew his hand. The next second, the door slammed shut, completely cutting them off from Sierra.

โ€œEvan, what do we do?โ€ Sean asked.

Evan was just as lost. He had no idea what to do either.
