Chapter 154: The Right Time

Sierra instinctively took a deep breath, then looked at Jonathan with some confusion, as if she didnโ€™t understand why he had suddenly let go. Before she could figure it out, a large hand fell over her eyes, blocking the light. Jonathanโ€™s somewhat suppressed voice echoed in the confined space, โ€œSierra, stop tempting me!โ€

Even though her mind was still muddled, Sierra knew that what Jonathan said wasnโ€™t right. How am I the one tempting him? Heโ€™s the one who pounced on me the second I got in the car. I didnโ€™t do a thing! But her sense of danger kept her smart enough to stay silent. She couldnโ€™t see Jonathanโ€™s face, but from his breathing and heartbeat, she could tell his emotions were unstable.

Fine, letโ€™s just say I tempted him.

Neither of them spoke again. Jonathan lowered the car window, and the cold wind dispersed some of the excess endorphins in the car. Sierra felt like she could finally breathe properly again. As her breathing gradually slowed, Jonathan finally removed his hand. But he didnโ€™t start the car right away. Instead, he lowered his gaze and looked at Sierra.

Because of the earlier lack of air, her usually pale face was tinged with a faint flush. Her thin lips were slightly swollen, glistening with moisture, like a tempting cherry. Jonathan quickly averted his gaze, feeling like he needed a little longer to calm down.

Unaware of his reaction, Sierra asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with you?โ€ She couldnโ€™t quite understand what had just happened with Jonathan. He was too intense! The moment she got into the car, she felt like she had been locked onto by an untamed beast. It was a strange feeling, one she couldnโ€™t describe. She was both afraid and expectant, her adrenaline surging uncontrollably.

Of course, Jonathan wasnโ€™t about to explain what he had overheard earlier. He simply said, โ€œYou were gone too long. I was worried.โ€

Hearing this, Sierra couldnโ€™t help but glance at him. Is that really how worry is supposed to be expressed? Her look made Jonathan smirk. โ€œIf you want to think I was jealous, that works too.โ€

Sierra nodded. โ€œGot it.โ€ As she spoke, she absentmindedly licked her lips. They still hurt a little. But to Jonathan, that action looked like pure seduction.

His breathing grew heavy for a few seconds before he said, โ€œWhy are you so good at tempting people?โ€ Earlier, when talking to Kason, she had read him like an open book, playing him effortlessly. And Kason had fallen for itโ€”hook, line, and sinker. Now, she was turning it on Jonathan! Jonathan couldnโ€™t help but wonder who else she had ensnared like this. But reason held him back from asking.

Sierra looked at him skeptically. After a long pause, she finally said, โ€œThey say jealous men lose their rationality. I guess I finally got it now.โ€ So even someone as brilliant as Jonathan wasnโ€™t immune to jealousy.

Jonathan was momentarily stunned. Then, understanding her meaning, he chuckled and didnโ€™t bother explaining. Instead, he changed the subject. โ€œHow did it go tonight!โ€

The moment they got back to business, Sierraโ€™s expression turned serious. โ€œBrendan is in trouble. Heโ€™s cautious, so getting evidence against him is difficult. But it wasnโ€™t a total loss. He gave me this,โ€ She took out a flash drive and held it up, her dark eyes gleaming with a mix of excitement and anticipation. This might contain the truth about the car accident from three years ago.

โ€œLetโ€™s go check it out.โ€ Jonathan started the car.

Soon, they arrived home. Dickson pulled out a laptop and opened the files on the flash drive. A video played. At first, the screen was black. Then, a figure appeared, followed by a car swerving erratically. Sierraโ€™s hand clenched involuntarily as she watched the person on screen get hit and thrown into the air. Then, she saw Deniseโ€™s panicked face. She also saw herself rushing out of the car, shouting at Denise, who was behind the wheel. The video cut off there, but it was enough. The final frame clearly captured Deniseโ€™s face and her position in the driverโ€™s seat.

Sierraโ€™s breathing quickened. She had been searching for proof all this time, and now, she finally had the evidence to clear her name.

โ€œThis is it!โ€ Dickson grinned. โ€œSierra, letโ€™s turn this in to the police right now. Youโ€™re finally free.โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Sierra shook her head. โ€œNot yet.โ€

Dickson frowned. โ€œWhy not?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not the right time.โ€
