Chapter 134: The Call of Worry
Sierra was elated, and the first person she thought of was Jonathan. Instinctively, she pulled out her phone to share the good news, but as she was about to dial, she remembered the current state of their relationship. Her smile faded, and she slowly put the phone away.
Stepping out of the research institute, her sense of loss lingered when, unfortunately, Kason appeared.
โSierra!โ Kason approached with a bouquet of roses, exuding a polished air. Seeing him, Sierra reflexively gagged, her mind filled with images of Kasonโs repulsive white flesh and his deeds.
Confused, Kason, still thinking himself considerate, approached. โWhatโs wrong? You look terrible.โ As he reached out to touch her head, Sierra dodged and slapped his hand hard. โDonโt touch me!โ Disgust was unmistakable in Sierraโs voice.
Kasonโs smile froze, and a sinister look flashed in his eyes. โWhatโs gotten into you?โ
Realizing she had lost her composure, Sierra stepped back, feeling nauseous. โI just did an experiment; I feel sick, and your cologne is too strong; itโs making me uncomfortable!โ While not exactly flattering, her words did soften Kasonโs expression.
โIโve been busy these past few days and havenโt reached out. I heard youโve been at the lab every day. Howโs the experiment going?โ Kason asked with concern.
Sierra nodded without going into details about her experiment but asked, โWhat have you been busy with?โ
Kason seemed caught off guard by her question, pausing before responding, โJust business stuff. Anything wrong?โ
โJust a bit frustrated because the experiments arenโt going smoothly; I thought you might have something fun to share.โ
Kason almost blurted out that he had indeed found something amusing; he had discovered a new โtoyโ that could really take a beating, fiery and with a delightful scream. Unfortunately, he didnโt fully trust Sierra, or else he would have invited her to join this game. But he had other plans.
โDonโt worry, thereโs a party in a few days that you might like. Shall I pick you up?โ
Sierra looked up tiredly and said pointedly, โI hope itโs genuinely interesting and not just minor trouble like before.โ
โOf course not! Trust me, you wonโt be disappointed!โ Kason assured her earnestly. Sierra gave a reluctant smile, seemingly convinced by his words.
Seeing Sierra like this, Kason couldnโt help himself; he wanted more contact with her. โWhere are you headed now? Want to grab some food?โ
Having gleaned useful information and not wanting to spend another moment with this scumbag, Sierra simply said, โI have class!โ
โThose classes donโt matter; nobody will trouble you for missing them.โ
โI want to go!โ Sierra lifted her gaze, her look brooking no argument. Kason should have been annoyed, but for some reason, seeing that look in Sierraโs eyes only tickled his heart; he couldnโtโฆ
โAlright, Iโll take you there.โ Kason courteously opened the car door, and Sierra hesitated but eventually got in.
Arriving at school, Sierra noticed people were looking at her strangely. What now?
Just as she was about to check the schoolโs forum on her phone, she overheard a conversation: โI heard she had a falling out with Mr. Yeager. She hasnโt been to his classes these past few days,โ
โMr. Yeager must have finally seen her true colors and dumped her.โ
โMr. Yeager didnโt show up for class today either. Heard heโs sick.โ
Sierra froze. Jonathan was sick?
Just then, another piece of gossip reached her ears: โI heard Mr. Yeager isnโt sick; he was in a car accident.โ
โReally?โ
โYes, I recognize Mr. Yeagerโs car. When I was driving in today, I saw his car smashed up, and he wasnโt even in the driverโs seat, just traffic cops at the scene.โ
โNo way! Is Mr. Yeager badly hurt?โ
โWho knows!โ
Sierra couldnโt listen anymore; she turned and ran towards the school gate, dialing Jonathanโs number as she ran. But until the call disconnected, there was no answer from his end.
