Chapter 130: Hearts on the Line
Sierra felt a stir in her heart and moved her lips to speak, but what came out was, โMr. Yeager, your persona has completely shattered.โ
Jonathan was initially taken aback, then burst into a hearty laugh, a rarity for him. Sierra couldnโt help but stare, mesmerized by his laughter. No longer maintaining his facade, Jonathan removed his glasses and tucked them into his shirt pocket.
For the first time, Sierra saw Jonathan without his glasses. Without the lenses to shield them, his eyes were clearly visibleโferocious, piercing, with a natural disdain that could never belong to a gentle person. If she had first met this version of Jonathan, she definitely wouldnโt have engaged with him further.
Perhaps it was Sierraโs comment about his persona crumbling that made Jonathan drop all pretenses. He leaned against his car, the scholarly and gentle aura vanished, replaced by a dangerous and austere, yet captivating presence. He rubbed the bridge of his nose. โCanโt help it! They all say Iโm too fierce to be a teacher, so I have to put on an act.โ
โYou do seem a bit fierce!โ Sierra agreed, nodding as she studied him, astonished by the transformation. It was the same person, yet he gave off two entirely different vibes. โSo, donโt worry about dragging me into trouble. Iโm not as weak as you think.โ
Jonathan brought the conversation back to the issue at hand. โNow, tell me, what did Shane do to you?โ
Sierra instinctively looked at Jonathan. โYou know who he is?โ She didnโt recall ever mentioning Shaneโs name, but Jonathan had pinpointed him exactly. โI know him! Heโs the warden of the womenโs prison.โ
Seeing the surprise on Sierraโs face, Jonathan casually mentioned, โThat can be looked up.โ What he didnโt tell Sierra was that the deputy warden usually handled external affairs, and even the Xander family had only dealt with the deputy. Few knew about Shaneโs existence.
Sierra said, โHeโs a madman with a lot of blood on his hands. Jonathan, just leave it be!โ
Sierra looked down, perhaps thinking about Jonathanโs background, which, despite its strength, couldnโt stand against sheer power and influence. Shaneโs boldness suggested a powerful backing, confident that no evidence of his deeds was left out in the open. Kason certainly didnโt know his actions were being broadcast live, even right in front of her. No one knew how Shane managed it. Seeing she was still reluctant to speak, Jonathanโs gaze darkened slightly, but he didnโt press further and instead stepped back.
โLetโs head back!โ Sierra didnโt look well. Wanting to shift her away from fear, he changed the subject. โBy the way, what were you about to tell me over the phone?โ
Hearing this, Sierra smiled. โJonathan, I succeeded. My theories over the past few days have been validated; Iโm just at the final verification stage now. If there are no issues, we can proceed to clinical trials!โ
This news was beyond Jonathanโs expectations. โThat quickly?โ
Chapter 130: Hearts on the Line
It would undoubtedly cause a stir if it got out. โThis is indeed great news,โ Jonathan said, looking at her.
The Xander family would never know what they missed. They had a chance to rise to the top echelons but squandered it.
โI also heard some good news! Deniseโs surgery didnโt go smoothly; she might need a heart transplant.โ Denise had congenital heart disease, not severe, manageable with careful monitoring. However, the recent complications and her delay in getting surgery meant a stent wouldnโt solve her problems anymore; Denise might need a new heart. A heart transplant was far from easy. Besides the immense cost, finding a compatible heart donor was a nightmare.
After listening to Jonathan, Sierra simply said, โThat is indeed good news!โ The Xander family must be too anxious to sleep, thinking about it. No rush, the more thrilling developments are yet to come! She had always been searching for evidence of Denise hitting someone with her car three years ago, never stopping since her release.
