Chapter 127: Roses and Thorns
Jonathan had made it crystal clear: she could rely on him, and he could be her protector. It was just Kason, after all; if he wanted, dealing with him would take just a minute. Yet, she stubbornly refused to lean on him! Suppressing his darker thoughts, Jonathan instructed, โCall me the moment you sense danger; nothing is more important than your safety!โ
โOkay!โ
With Jonathanโs words, Sierra felt more assured. Two days later, when Kason called again, she didnโt ignore it but finally answered.
Kason sounded relieved. โYou finally picked up! If you hadnโt answered, I was about to come and find you. Sierra, letโs meet up.โ
โSure, letโs meet at the institute; I was about to head over anyway.โ
When Sierra arrived at the institute, Kason was already there, dressed to the nines, holding a bouquet of roses, waiting outside.
โWhy arenโt you going in?โ
โI canโt bring roses inside, but I wanted them to be the first thing you saw.โ
Kason was smooth with his romantic words; handing over the roses, he pleaded, โDonโt be mad at me anymore, okay?โ
Sierra glanced at him, took the flowers from his hands, and casually set them aside, stating bluntly, โI donโt like heโs all talk and no action.โ
โThatโs just how he is; you really scared him that day.โ
Kasonโs eyes sparkled with intensity as he spoke, โSierra, you really surprised me!โ A biochemistry genius, with such skills and character, she was beyond his expectations. She had been in prison for three years, and he hadnโt known! It seems Shane hid her well! Seeing the intrigue in his eyes, Sierra knew she was halfway there.
Seizing the moment, she said, โActually, thereโs something Iโd like your help with.โ
โGo ahead!โ
Kason thought Sierra would bring up Brendan, but she spoke about the lab instead. โIโve rented it for three months, and thatโs almost up; can I continue the lease?โ
Surprised at first, Kason quickly said, โOf course! You can use it as long as you want.โ
โOnce weโre engaged, this will be your property too.โ
Then, changing tack, Kason asked, โSierra, can we get engaged first?โ He was getting impatient!
Sierra tilted her chin up, looking a bit proud, she glanced at Kason, โEngaged? I donโt think itโs time yet.โ
โAt least, you havenโt made my heart flutter yet.โ
Saying this, Sierra lightly tapped Kasonโs chest, โStep up your game!โ
Unable to contain himself, he grabbed Sierraโs hand, dropping all pretense of gentility; his eyes filled with undisguised desire. โWhen the time comes, you wonโt be allowed to regret it!โ As soon as he withdrew her hand, suppressing the urge to wash her hands, she said coolly, โIโm heading to the lab now; do as you please.โ
With that, she turned and entered the lab. The more she acted like this, the more Kasonโs heart itched; he felt like a part of his body was about to explode. He hadnโt even left the institute when he impatiently made a phone call. โHello, itโs me; are you back yet? Send someone over, the usual price. And make it someone with a fiery temperament!โ
As soon as he was about to hang up, something occurred to him, and he said, โSuch a fine thing, why not keep hiding it?โ The person on the other end was Shane, who chuckled lightly at the desire in Kasonโs voice, his eyes filled with disdain. Things are meant to be shared. Iโll remind you, every rose has its thorns; be careful not to crash.
Kason didnโt take Shaneโs words to heart: looking at the dewy rose left aside, he said nonchalantly, โIf it has thorns, just pluck them out. Besides, itโs the thorns that make it exciting!โ Shane said no more and hung up.
After a while, he made another call, asked a couple of questions, then hung up again. His man had already made contact with Dickson as arranged, but it seemed to have had no effect.
