Chapter 125: Dickson's Downfall
Dickson smiled and said, โItโs nothing, really. I just want to leave. I want to go somewhere no one knows me and start a new life. I donโt want to see those people anymore, nor do I want to live with this hatred. Sierra, regardless, Iโm glad to have met you.โ
Sierra narrowed her eyes slightly. โDickson, what have you heard?โ
Since he had decided to leave, there was no need for secrecy. Dickson hesitated before saying, โSierra, I know that Daphneโs death is connected to you. You helped me out of guilt, but Iโm still grateful. Youโve saved my life more than once, and you even took care of my momโs body.โ
Sierra interrupted him. โWait! You say Daphneโs death is related to me? Who told you that?โ
Dickson didnโt hide anything and shared about his encounter with someone from the prison.
Sierra finally understood why Dickson had been acting strangely yesterday. At this moment, she didnโt know whether to be relieved that Dickson truly appreciated her or to comment on his naivetรฉ.
โHe told you, and you believed him?โ
Sierra was at a loss for words. Dickson pursed his lips and said nothing, his demeanor showing that he believed the personโs words completely. Sierra realized that it made sense; after all, she had always hidden the cause of his sisterโs death from him.
After thinking it over, she said, โDaphneโs death has nothing to do with me. I only found out she was dead a while ago.โ
If it werenโt for that video, she might not have even remembered Daphne.
Dicksonโs expression changed. โWhat? Sierra, are you telling the truth?โ
โAt this point, I have no reason to lie to you, Dickson. Donโt just believe what strangers tell you.โ
Sierra knew why that person would do such a thing: they wanted to drive a wedge between her and Dickson. It was a classic Shane move, who loved to play such games under the guise of exploring human nature. Nonsense!
โThen tell me, how did my sister really die? Donโt hide it from me, please!โ
Dickson was visibly agitated. He had convinced himself not to care, only to discover he didnโt know the whole truth. He was relieved he hadnโt acted impulsively, fearing he would have regretted it for the rest of his life.
Sierra was hesitating when Jonathan, who had finished his phone call, came back and said, โYou should tell him the truth. Keeping things hidden isnโt always good.โ
He had overheard some of their conversation and was relieved that Dickson hadnโt lost all his senses.
If Dickson had attacked Sierra last nightโฆ Just thinking about the possibility made Jonathan feel inexplicably irritable.
Seeing Dicksonโs urgent desire for the truth, Sierra hesitated but finally said, โShe was tortured to death.โ
Dicksonโs mind reeled. โTortured to death? By whom?โ
Sierra looked at Dickson with pity. โI canโt tell you that. And donโt try to investigate it. You wonโt be able to find anything. Daphne made a deal to get out. She wanted moneyโฆโ
Dickson broke down, suddenly slapping himself hard. โMy sister died because of me. It was me!โ
โNo, you donโt understand, itโs me, I caused her death! Mom got sick, I had to study, take care of Mom, and work. I couldnโt take it anymore, so I went to see her. I blamed her for everything I was going through,โ Dickson cried out in agony.
Sierra was stunned; she hadnโt known these things. She knew Daphne had been down during those days; she even asked how to make a lot of money and get out. Sierra asked what was wrong, but she didnโt say.
Later one day, Daphne suddenly told Sierra that she could leave and make a lot of money. After that, Sierra never heard from her again.
So, it was because of this. Sierra felt a deep sense of sorrow, unsure of what to say.
After Dickson had cried for a while, she finally went over to comfort him. โDaphne wouldnโt want to see you like this. Donโt take the blame upon yourself.โ
Sierraโs words didnโt seem to help much. From that day on, Dicksonโs condition worsened, even showing signs of self-harm.
