Chapter 101: A Taste of Her Own Medicine
This was beyond callous. Such a pathetic lie, yet the Xander family believed it without question. In their eyes, Denne would never be anything but the sweetest, most innocent girl in the world.
The Xander family completely believed Jamesโs words, yet not a single one of them blamed Denise. Instead, they threw everything they had at James, treating him as the real problem.
Bradley was the first to speak. โMr. Coleman, that $700,000 wasnโt just to show appreciation for you taking care of Sierra all these yearsโit was also Dennyโs way of supporting you. Besides, you never actually took care of Sierra. If we had known how much she suffered in the Coleman family, we wouldnโt have given you a single cent.โ
Sierra looked at Bradley, who was fuming with anger, but instead of feeling touched, she just found it laughable. Had they cared about her even a little, they would have known she had been living miserably in the Coleman family. Her rothes, the scars on her bodyโeverything was right in front of them, yet they turned a blind eye. In their eyes, only Denise mattered.
And now they had the nerve to say, โIf weโd known?โ Please.
Jarnen was nothing but a scumbag, and the moment he heard Bradleyโs words, he wasnโt having it. He immediately started arguing with the Xander family, making an even bigger scene. What was supposed to be a pleasant dinner to strengthen family bonds had spiraled entirely into a disaster.
Sierra watched the chaos for a moment, but it quickly stopped being entertaining. Losing interest, she got up and prepared to leave. Denise had been keeping an eye on her this whole time. The second she saw Sierra trying to slip away, she stepped forward, blocking her path with a furious glare. โYou started all this, and now youโre just going to walk away?โ
โWhat does any of this have to do with me?โ Sierra gestured towards James and Yulia. โThatโs your biological mother.โ Then, she pointed at the Xander family. โAnd thatโs your adoptive familyโyour brother and parents. Theyโre all connected to you, not me. The only reason theyโre fighting is because of you. Since youโre so capable, Iโm sure youโll have no problem handling both sides. Think of it as my way of returning the favor. Iโm sure youโll figure something out.โ Sierra smiled. โA gift in returnโno need to thank me.โ
With that, she walked away without looking back. She had definitely set Denise up today. Yesterday, she had specifically asked Bradley whether Denise knew the Coleman family would be showing up. When she learned that Denise had no clue, she made sure to tell Bradley not to inform herโsaying it would be a surprise.
James wasnโt someone who could be brushed off easily. Denise was in for a rough time. And Yulia? She might seem easier to deal with than James, but she had a real knack for playing the victim. She could cry and manipulate better than Denise ever could. It would be interesting to see which of them put on the better performance.
Sierra had suffered for so many years. It was about time Denise got a taste of it. With James and Yulia clinging to her, the Xander family wouldnโt be getting any peace either. They love Denise so much, donโt they? Then keep on spoiling herโand deal with the consequences!
As soon as Sierra stepped out of the hotel, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. But just then, her phone rangโit was Jonathan.
10:51 AM
She answered out of curiosity, but whatever he said on the other end made her expression shift in an instant. Her hands trembled. โIโll be right there!โ
She rushed to the hospital as fast as she could. Jonathan was waiting outside. The moment he saw her, he quickly reassured her, โDicksonโs fine. He got a little worked up, but heโs asleep now.โ
โWhat the hell happened?โ Sierra demanded.
Everything had been fine when she left earlier, yet out of nowhere, Jonathan called to tell her Dickson had ended up in the hospital.
โWas it because of the injuries from yesterday?โ
โNo,โ Jonathan explained. โI got back just in time to see him heading out. I noticed something off about the way he was walking, so I followed him. Turns out, he went straight to Dynasty Clubโthe same place from last night. Thatโs when I knew something was wrong. I stopped him, but he got agitated. He had a knife hidden in his pants. His demeanor was off, so I knocked him out and brought him here. When he woke up, he completely lost it. The doctors couldnโt even examine him, so they had to sedate him.โ
Hearing this, Sierra felt a chill run down her spine. She had really thought Dickson had come to his senses. Who knew he had just been pretending? He hadnโt let it go at all. He was planning to take those people down with him.
What an idiot! If he had really gone in there with a knife, not only would he have failed to get revenge, but he wouldโve ruined his own life. Heโd end up just like his sister, locked behind bars. And once he was in there, heโd finally know what it meant to be in hell.
She didnโt even want to think about what wouldโve happened if Jonathan hadnโt been paying extra attention. If he hadnโt stopped Dickson in time, thereโs no telling how badly this couldโve ended. Dicksonโs fate would have been sealed.
