Ray found it strange and followed Byron's gaze. He saw Maeve sitting nearby, her cheek resting on her hand, talking to a pretty girl. He raised his eyebrows. "Byron, isn't that your maid? Should we go say hello?" Byron coldly averted his gaze. "You've nothing better to do?" He then walked toward their table. After sitting down, Ray, remembering Byron's displeasure, asked boldly, "Did you two quarrel again? Are you upset because of her?" Byron casually flipped through the menu, saying indifferently, "Do you think she's worthy?"

Byron's words were harsh, surprising even Jarrett. The atmosphere between Byron and Maeve at the hospital had been different; something was clearly amiss. Jarrett and Ray wondered what had happened. Ray rubbed his chin, then gestured to a waiter. "Boss?" the waiter asked.

"Send a rose cake tower to the two ladies at table six, and put it on my tab," Ray instructed.

"Sure, boss," the waiter replied, leaving.

Ray slyly smiled at Byron. "Byron, that's a dessert my restaurant specially prepares for couples. You don't mind if I give your maid one, right?"

Byron's eyes were calm. "She's not mine. Repeat that again, and you'll be swimming in the river."

Jarrett chuckled. Ray silently looked at the river and decided to keep quiet.

At table six, Maeve and Bonnie were discussing a draft when a waiter arrived with a nine-layer rose-pink cake tower. Maeve was stunned. "Sorry, is there a mistake? We didn't order this."

"It's a treat from a gentleman," the waiter smiled. "Enjoy."

"Which gentleman?" Maeve asked.

The waiter gestured toward the window. Maeve saw Ray leaning out of a booth, smiling and waving. It was Byron's friend. Maeve's heart tightened; she looked toward Ray, but couldn't see Byron due to the angle and greenery. She pursed her lips. "Please thank Mr. George for his generosity," she told the waiter, deciding against refusing the gift. She would return the favor later.

The waiter left. Bonnie checked the menu, shocked. "Maeve, this cake is for couples. Are you dating secretly?"

"No," Maeve said helplessly. "It's just someone I know." She wondered if Ray had sent it because of Byron. Unsure, she changed the subject. "Let's go downstairs later. I need fabrics and accessories for work tomorrow."

Bonnie, a dessert lover, happily agreed. "Even to hell with you now!" she exclaimed. She thought the dessert sender was thoughtful.

Maeve smiled, then felt unwell. "Bonnie, I need the washroom."

"Sure."

Maeve went to the washroom and discovered her period had started. She rubbed her abdomen; the pain was manageable.

After washing her hands, Maeve returned to the dining room. She tripped over something, bumping into a waiter's tray. Hot mushroom soup spilled on her, burning her. As she steadied herself, Maura's voice rang out.

"Maeve, you're so careless!" Maura sat with a man, gloating. Maeve saw Maura's high heels and realized she'd been tripped. "Maura, you deliberately tripped me, didn't you?" she asked coldly.

Maura sneered, mocking Maeve's husband's job and their financial status. Maeve, furious at the insult to Byron, splashed her wine in Maura's face.

Maura screamed. "What's wrong with being a driver?" Maeve retorted angrily. "At least my husband earns honestly, unlike some who seduce men. He's far better than you."

Maura, enraged, lunged at Maeve, but Alex grabbed her wrist. "Miss, calm down. There are cameras," he warned.
