Chapter 445

Celine had disappeared from the medical world for three yearsโ€”all because of Adam. It was only now that Adam finally understood this. His gaze landed on her delicate face. โ€œCeline, Lโ€ฆโ€

Before he could finish, Celine interrupted him. โ€œAdam, itโ€™s all in the past. Thereโ€™s no need to talk about it anymore.โ€ Then, she turned to Hailey and said, โ€œLetโ€™s go have some fun.โ€

โ€œAlright,โ€ Hailey agreed.

Just as they were about to walk away, Adam reached out and caught Celineโ€™s slender wrist, stopping her. Celine winced in pain. Adamโ€™s eyes fell on her arm. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ he asked.

Hailey immediately pushed Adamโ€™s hand away. โ€œMr. Alvarez, Celine was injured when those kidnappers took her. She got hurt trying to escape, and her arm is still badly bruised.โ€

Adam frowned. Hailey scoffed. โ€œAt that time, you didnโ€™t hesitate to choose Carly. You carried her away and left Celine behind. So, Mr. Alvarez, please donโ€™t pretend to care about Celine now. You and Carly were no different from those kidnappers!โ€

Adam fell silent. He wanted to ask Hailey whose cousin she really was. Wasnโ€™t she supposed to be her family? Why did it feel like all her sharp words were aimed at him? However, he had no defense. He couldnโ€™t deny that he had chosen Carly.

Celine looked at him calmly. โ€œMr. Alvarez, itโ€™s fine. Iโ€™m used to it.โ€ Adam felt his heart ache at her words.

Celine added, with a self-deprecating smile, โ€œAfter all, when it comes to choosing between Carly and me, youโ€™ve never wavered. I was always the one left behind.โ€ The ache in Adamโ€™s heart only intensified, like a thousand tiny stings he couldnโ€™t ignore.

โ€œCeline, Iโ€™m sorry,โ€ Adam said. โ€œCarly once saved my life.โ€

Celine was momentarily surprised. This was the first time Adam had ever mentioned it. She simply felt surprised that Carly had saved someone.

โ€œI didnโ€™t realize Mr. Alvarez was the type to repay a drop of kindness with an ocean of gratitude. Carly saved you, so youโ€™ve never forgotten her. I saved you tooโ€”why did you forget?โ€ Celine found this bitterly ironic. She had also saved Adam once, but he didnโ€™t even remember her as his savior.

Adam was taken aback. โ€œYou saved me? When?โ€

Celine replied coldly, โ€œYears ago, werenโ€™t you seriously injured and lost in a forest?โ€

Adam froze. How did she know that? How did she know about what happened between him and Carly? Adam walked toward her. โ€œHow do you know about that? Did Carly tell you?โ€

Celine couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œWhat does Carly have to do with this? I donโ€™t need her to tell me anything. I was there that day!โ€

Adam was stunned to learn that Celine had been in that forest too. How was that possible? โ€œWhat were you doing there?โ€ he pressed, taking another step forward.

Before he could say more, a voice interrupted them. โ€œAdam!โ€ Celine looked up to see Carly approaching, with Sonia, Tracy, and Lucy by her side.
