Chapter 75: Pain Is Real
Yunice finally caught on and asked, โYou can feel pain?โ
Wyatt turned to glare at her. โCanโt you?โ
Yunice fell silent.
Seeing that she still didnโt get it, Wyatt added, โYou could at least do what you did last time when you gave me the shot. Distracting me is better than yanking it like this.โ
Yanice glanced at him and thought, Back at the Johnson residence, when I had to give him an injection, Iโd lightly scratched near the injection site to avoid upsetting him, though he still snapped at me afterward.
Now he wanted me to use the same trick again. His temper was impossible to figure out. But Yunice had long since grown used to patients being moody.
She said, โYour wound is too large. That trick wonโt work. But you could ask Dr. Joe to give you some anesthesia for the painโฆโ
Speak of the devil. Joe pushed the door open with a stethoscope around his neck, just in time to hear Yunice mention anesthesia.
โAnesthesia? Mr. Cooper never takes that stuff. Says it dulls the brain.โ
Yunice was surprised. โNo anesthesia? Then how do you manage the pain?โ
Joe shrugged like it was no big deal. โHe just toughs it out.โ
Yunice turned to look at Wyatt. Then why had he acted like the gauze change earlier was unbearable?
Joe suddenly felt a chill down his spine. He met Wyattโs cold stare and immediately shut his mouth tight. Did I say something wrong?
Wyatt snapped at him, โWhat are you standing there for? You were the one who changed my dressing. Get over here and fix it!โ
โAlright,โ Joe rushed over and took Yuniceโs place.
With nothing left to do, Yunice walked over to the window and looked out. It was still early morning, but the streets outside were already bustling.
This was the third day Iโd gone completely missing, and no one from the Saunders family had come looking, Yunice thought to herself. If it werenโt for Wyatt, Iโd still be locked up in that warehouse suffering.
โMr. Cooper, Paulโs leg is fractured. Theyโve already given him anesthesia three times. Still hurts so bad he canโt sleep,โ Joe said casually as he worked.
Yuniceโs ears twitched. She couldnโt help but wonder what had happened while she was being held.
Chapter 75: Pain Is Real
Elsie hovered by his bedside, running back and forth in distress. โPaul, have some water. Itโll help with the pain.โ Then she offered him some grapes. โPaul, eat a grape. Itโll make you feel better.โ
Paul was losing his mind. Heโd never realized just how talkative Elsie could be. This wasnโt some mild cold or fever. My bone was shatteredโit hurt like hell!
He swallowed his frustration and said patiently, โElsie, Iโm in too much pain to eat or drink. Just get me another painkiller.โ
Iโd been pampered my whole life, raised with four or five nannies hovering around me from the moment I could walk. Iโd never even scraped a knee before. How could I handle something like this?
But Elsie, eyes red, replied tearfully, โYou already took too many. The doctor said you canโt have any more.โ
Paul grew irritated, โBut Iโm in serious pain!โ
Elsie hesitated. Paul thought she was finally softening, ready to bring him the medicine. He was relieved. But instead, Elsie leaned in and kissed his lips gently, then smiled sweetly. โA kiss will make it all better.โ
Paulโs entire expression twisted like heโd swallowed a fly. He was completely numb and wanted to scream.
Elsie looked at him, confused. Normally, when he got sick and I kissed him, heโd be all smiles.
Paul tried to stay calm and said, โElsie, you study medicine. Canโt you think of anything else for the pain?โ
โAnything elseโฆ,โ Elsie racked her brain. โBut this is how they treat everyone. We all go through the same thing.โ
โThatโs not true. Yuniโฆโ Paul was about to argue when Jensen walked in. His fatherโs face was stern. Seeing Paul in such a pathetic state made him furious. โJust endure it. Crying over a little fractureโhow do you expect to achieve anything?โ
Paulโs face turned bright red. Shamed into silence, he clenched his jaw and didnโt say a word.
Elsie hadnโt seen much of Jensen before. The moment he entered, she quickly tried to play nice. โDad, Paulโs really strong. Please donโt be mad at him.โ
Jensen cut her off with a cold glare. โWho told you to be here? Get out.โ
โHuh?โ Elsie froze. Hadnโt the Powell family already proposed to me? Why was the future daughter-in-law being told to leave? She had no idea what sheโd done wrong. Instinctively, she turned to Paul for help.
