Chapter 612 The Point of No Return
Yunice realized the biker was rightโif she called the cops now, Owen wouldnโt have enough time to cover his tracks. That meant Owen, Timothy, and Peggy would all be exposed and punished accordingly.
Should she report them? Should she put an end to the Saunders familyโs long-standing cycle of vengeance?
A loud hum filled her head for several seconds. It wasnโt until the biker called her name again, his voice growing closer through the receiver, that she snapped back to reality.
โNo. Donโt call the police,โ she said firmly.
Yuniceโs voice trembled slightly. โIf I do that now, what happens to Timothy? Heโs a buyerโuneducated, dirt poor. Back in the mountains, he paid three thousand dollars to buy Lilyโฆ and with her, he got Elsie. He even took my fatherโs life.โ
She went on, โBut when Lily was rescued, Timothy faced zero consequences. Instead, Owen paid him thirty thousand dollars just so heโd agree to give Elsie up. The law doesnโt punish people like him.โ
Today, Timothy had stormed into the Saunders residence, extorted Owen, made a scene. Even if she did report it, whatever punishment he got would never measure up to his crimes.
They didnโt deserve the easy way out.
The biker hesitated. โYouโre sure? If this keeps going, Owen and Timothy are going to burn in hell together.โ
He was worried about herโworried that sheโd regret this. After all, Owen was her brother.
Yunice was silent for a few seconds. Then, in a cold, quiet voice, she said, โThatโs their choice. I wonโt interfere with their karma. Iโm just a bystander.โ
Yes. Sheโd never tried to hurt anyone. It was the monsters inside them that led things to this point. That wasnโt on her.
She hung up. Her phone slipped out of her hand and landed on the bed.
Something inside her was churning. She clawed at her own hair, unsure what exactly she was feeling.
It made her nauseous. Physically sick.
She stumbled down from the top bunk and rushed into the bathroom. Dropping to her knees, she vomited into the toilet.
โDadโฆ all of us in the Saunders familyโฆ none of us are clean anymoreโฆโ
Owen. Herself. None of them were the innocent kids they once were. Theyโd been poisonedโtwistedโwith venomous thoughts and cruel tactics, all turned against their own.
She didnโt know if what she did was right. But if she didnโt do it, she couldnโt live with herself.
Then Iโll go to hell with Owen, she thought, as long as Oscar stays out of it.
โYunice, are you okay?โ Jennie and Lena knocked on the bathroom door. โAre you having altitude sickness or something? Weโve got meds if you need them. We all had the same reaction when we first arrived.โ
Yunice rinsed her face slowly, then stepped out, forcing a small smile. โIโm fine.โ
Jennie and Lena looked at her pale face, unconvinced.
โYouโre shaking,โ Lena said with concern. โYou sure itโs not low blood sugar or something? Maybe sit down. You really donโt look okay.โ
โI promise, Iโm fine. Just some old symptomsโIโll be better soon,โ Yunice replied, brushing off their concern.
She walked to her desk and sat down under their watchful eyes.
Just then, the dorm door flung open with a loud slam. Yunice instinctively looked over.
A girl strolled in, dressed maturelyโborderline provocative. Her eyes swept over Yunice with thinly veiled disdain. Without a word, she tossed her bag onto her bed and locked herself in the bathroom with a loud bang.
โShe wonโt be out for at least two hours,โ Jennie muttered.
โYeah, she always waits until lights out before she comes out and gets in bed. Been like that since the semester startedโฆโ
โYunny, if you need to wash up, you can use the bathroom across the hall. The girls over there are super chill.โ
Yunice nodded, not planning to get involved in her roommatesโ drama.
She was only staying for a month, after all.
When lights went out, Jennie and Lena pulled their curtains shut and settled in for the night.
Yunice remained at her desk, illuminated only by a small nightlight.
She wasnโt reading. Wasnโt working.
Just sitting, staring into space.
She heard the bathroom door open. The girl mustโve finished removing her makeup. Yunice didnโt bother turning to look.
More than half an hour passed, The dorm grew completely quiet.
Yunice still didnโt feel the slightest bit sleepy. She glanced at her phone; it was already 11 p.m.
No messages. Everyone mustโve gone to bed by now.
She stood, walked into the bathroom, and opened the ventilation window.
Peered out.
After a few moments, she climbed through.
Thenโnimbly and without hesitationโshe started to descend from the third floor, climbing down along the air conditioner pipes.
