Chapter 601 Severed
Yunice glanced at the file again. โThe infection you picked up in the ward left lesions. Youโre showing signs of early-stage liver cancer.โ
Owen knew what that meant.
If he didnโt get surgery soon, heโd only have a few years. And even those years were ones Yunice just gave back to him.
She owed him nothing.
He looked pale, slumped in the hospital bed. The betrayal from Elsie hurt more than his illness.
All those excuses he made for her. All that loyalty. All the blind trust, gone.
โYuniceโฆโ he said hoarsely. โIf you want to come home, Iโll fix your paperwork. Mom and I can provide a DNA match. Weโll just say youโre the long-lost Saunders daughter. That weโve finally found you.โ
He meant well.
But the only way to reinstate Yunice was to fabricate a new identity for her. If she returned under her real name, the things Owen had done in the past would come to light.
Still, if she agreed, her place in the Saunders familyโand the inheritanceโwould be secure. Timothy would have no grounds to prove Elsieโs identity.
But Yunice said, โI was outside the door the day Elsie died. I heard you promise her that youโd never be good to me. That youโd never let me come home.โ
Owenโs face drained of color.
Yunice didnโt give him a chance to respond. She turned and walked away.
He clenched his fists. He knew nowโYunice wouldnโt help him.
So he made a decision.
He yanked out the IV, grabbed his phone, and called Lily. โMom, go to the airport now. Weโre leaving today!โ
Elsie had betrayed him. Her reputation wasnโt worth protecting.
As for the will fraudโonce they were overseas, it wouldnโt matter. He had the 30 billion. Time to disappear before something went wrong.
Meanwhile, Yunice sat in Freyaโs car, en route to the medical university.
Her phone buzzed.
โOwenโs on the move. Headed toward the airport.โ
Yunice replied, โJust follow. Donโt stop him.โ
Chapter 601 Severed
Owen and Lily met at the airport in a panic.
Lily noticed the medical tape on his arm. โWhat happened to your hand?โ
Owen ignored the question. He rushed to the airportโs secure lockers and retrieved a bag.
โMom,โ he said, โget the soonest flight. Doesnโt matter whereโit just has to be soon. Weโll figure out where to go later.โ
Lily followed, nervous. โWhatโs the rush? Did you bring Elsieโs ashes? We canโt just leave her.โ
Owenโs expression darkened. โTimothy took them. I couldnโt get them back. But donโt worryโweโll come back one day.โ
โWhat matters is that Yunice is investigating us. If we donโt leave now, we might not get another chance.โ
They bought their tickets and went to the gate.
โSorry,โ the airline staff said, turning their passports. โThese documents are invalid.โ
Owenโs eyes bulged.
Someone had doodled all over them.
Back in the car, Yunice got another update.
โTheir passports are defaced. Replacements will take at least 7-10 days. Theyโre going home.โ
โShame,โ Yunice texted back. โIf only someone took those documents now, I wonder how long theyโd be stuck?โ
A few minutes later, dingโa photo came through. Someone holding a bunch of freshly stolen IDs.
Yunice smiled and turned off her phone.
Freya, who was driving, said, โYou left early without telling Wyatt. Arenโt you afraid heโll show up at school and raise hell?โ
Yunice had told Wyatt sheโd leave tomorrow.
But here she was, already on her way.
She hadnโt told him because, wellโฆ Wyatt was the kind of guy whoโd cling like a burr if he got wind of her plans.
Better to ask forgiveness later than permission now.
