Chapter 590 No Oneโ€™s Problem but Yours

Owen said, โ€œYunice, Timothy came to the house and wonโ€™t leave. Can you figure out a way to get rid of him?โ€

Worried Yunice might not remember who Timothy was, he added quickly, โ€œYou know, that guy.โ€

Yunice asked curiously, โ€œWhatโ€™s he here for?โ€

Owen replied vaguely, โ€œTrying to extort some money, of course.โ€

Yunice let out a soft โ€œohโ€ and said lightly, โ€œJust a hundred, maybe two hundred grand, right? Treat it like giving to a beggarโ€ฆ If itโ€™s a big deal, I can even pay it for you.โ€

Owenโ€™s teeth clenched. Timothy wasnโ€™t asking for pocket changeโ€“he wanted 10% of the hospital. That was two hundred million.

Yunice tossing out twenty grand like spare change made it clear: there was no way sheโ€™d give him two hundred million.

Frustrated, Owen grumbled, โ€œYou know how greedy that guy is. If we give him anything, heโ€™ll come back again and again. Itโ€™ll never end.โ€

Yunice nodded. โ€œTrue. So what do you want to do?โ€

Owen said, โ€œHe claims to have a home here in Silverburgh. Can you look into his background, see if thereโ€™s a weak spot? Maybe even get him sent back to the mountains where he came from!โ€

He lowered his voice and added, โ€œEven better if you could trick him into some black mine, or sneak him onto a smuggling ship. Let him spend his life as a slave somewhere. I canโ€™t stand the sight of him living well!โ€

In Owenโ€™s mind, if not for Timothy, their father would still be alive, and the Saunders family wouldnโ€™t have fallen apart like this.

But Yunice replied with a slow drawl, โ€œYou should be thanking Timothy. If not for him, wouldnโ€™t you have ended up running the family, or had such a considerate little sister like Elsie? If he hadnโ€™t taken our mom awayโ€ฆโ€

If it werenโ€™t for him, Yunice wouldnโ€™t have suffered so terribly either.

Owen choked on her sarcasm, assuming she was just talking nonsense again. โ€œWhen are you going to grow up? Youโ€™re not a kid anymore. Canโ€™t you learn some tact? No one wants to hear you talk like this.โ€

โ€œTruth usually isnโ€™t pleasant,โ€ Yunice said calmly.

Owen was done arguing. โ€œJust handle it, will you? I canโ€™t stand having that man in my house another day.โ€

Yunice sneered. Even now, with trouble knocking at his door because he stole her rightful 10% of the inheritance, he still wouldnโ€™t come clean.

Her tone turned frosty. โ€œI never agreed to help you. What youโ€™re asking me to do is illegal. Are you teaching me to knowingly break the law? What if I take care of Timothy for you, and then you report me to the cops afterward?โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Owen didnโ€™t expect her to think like that.

He lowered his voice. โ€œDonโ€™t act naive. You know the kind of things Wyattโ€™s involved in. Even if he really did send someone off, do you think Iโ€™d have the chance to report it? Donโ€™t be ridiculous.โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œAnd donโ€™t you be ridiculous either. Why would Wyatt help me? Just because weโ€™re married? You think that means we share everythingโ€“money, power, favors?โ€

Owen bit back, โ€œWhy not? Heโ€™s your husband. Isnโ€™t it natural for you to use his resources?โ€

Yunice smiled coldly. โ€œGreat point. Then how come, when Peggy asked to work at Saunders Hospital the other day, you didnโ€™t let her? You two are married too. Why not let her use your money and resources? Isnโ€™t that โ€˜naturalโ€˜ too? Why didnโ€™t you like it then?โ€

Truly, Owen held everyone to different standards.

Yunice tapped at her keyboard and added, โ€œI canโ€™t get rid of him for you. But I did find out he does have a legal residence here in Silverburgh. He even owns property.โ€

โ€œProperty?โ€ Owen was stunned.

Because purchasing real estate in Silverburgh required more than money. You needed to have family ties or five years of legal residence.

Timothy, a hick from the mountains with no money or powerโ€“how could he possibly own a house here?

Yunice said, โ€œIโ€™ll send you the sales contact that helped him buy the place. You can see if that leads anywhere.โ€

As she was about to hang up, Owen snapped, โ€œCanโ€™t you just handle it for me while youโ€™re at it?โ€

Yunice sighed in exasperation. โ€œCan you get one thing straight? This is your mess. Timothyโ€™s got nothing to do with me. I donโ€™t owe him anything. Iโ€™m already being nice just looking into it for you, and now you expect me to do everything for you? What are you thinking?โ€

She hung up without waiting for a response.

Still holding her phone, Yunice immediately dialed Peggy.

Peggy was currently locked upstairs by Owen, pacing frantically and trying to figure out how to escapeโ€“when Yuniceโ€™s call came in.

The moment she answered, her tone turned sickly sweet. โ€œYunice, darling, I was just thinking of coming over to visit you today. My friend grows lychees on her farm, and I was planning to bring some over for you to taste. But that wretched Owen locked me in the house! Can you believe it?โ€
