Chapter 496 No Redemption
These people never cared.
A few careless words from them could destroy a womanโs lifeโpush her to the brinkโand all they ever did was mock her weakness, like it was absurd to cry over rumors. Like wanting to die over some โjokesโ made her overly sensitive.
Wyatt swept his gaze across the group. โWhich one of you bullied my wife?โ
No one dared get too close. They kept backing away until they realized Victor was behind them. Thatโs when it finally hit them: they werenโt getting out.
โWe didnโt bully her! It was all Paul! Only Paul!โ someone shouted, desperate to shift the blame.
Wyatt grabbed the man who spoke and yanked him forward. The guy was nearly Wyattโs size, but in his fear, he went completely limp. In Wyattโs grip, he looked like a sick chicken.
Wyatt glared at him. โDidnโt you say my wife was wild with Paul? That she was obsessed with him?โ
The man trembled, shaking his head hard. โI didnโtโI never said that-โ
Wyattโs eyes were cold, and his smile carried a cruel edge. Talking sense to these people was pointless, so he let go.
The man collapsed onto the floor, visibly relieved. Thinking Wyatt had let him off the hook, he quickly tried to flatter him, turning on Paul in the same breath.
โMr. Wyatt! It was always Paul who bullied Yunice. He spread the rumors! He wanted her, and when he couldnโt have her, he tried to ruin her. Heโs the one who smeared her name!โ
โYunice is kind and pure. Sheโs a perfect match for youโsheโs spotless!โ
The others jumped in immediately. โYes, exactly! Thatโs the truth!โ
Wyatt looked down at his fingers. โOf course my wife is good. But whatโs the point if Iโm the only one who knows?โ
They werenโt stupid. They got the hint fast.
โDonโt worry, Mr. Wyatt! Weโll make things right. We all know the truth about what really happened between her and Paul. Weโll clear her name. Weโll handle everything.โ
They all exhaled in relief. Now that they understood what Wyatt wanted, they could work with that. All he wanted was to stand up for his wife, right? That was easy.
The Powell family was finished. Paul was literally hanging half-dead in front of them. There was no point staying loyal. It was every man for himself now.
But Wyatt let out a sharp, cold laugh.
What a joke. This group of spineless cowards could destroy lives with a few wordsโand then try to fix everything with a few more?
Too bad. They might be willing to make it up to Yunice, but Wyatt wasnโt.
Why should they get to โput down the knife and find redemptionโ?
He pointed toward a nearby room. โAll of you. In there. Now.โ
Everyone hesitated, confused. No one moved.
Wyattโs reputation wasnโt exactly reassuring. No one could guess what he was thinking. They just knew that when it came to him, nothing good ever came from listeningโor from disobeying.
No one wanted to be the first.
So Wyatt grabbed another man by the collar and dragged him into the room.
The rest panicked.
โMr. Wyatt! We swearโweโll clear everything up!โ
Clear things up?
What good would that do?
Would an apology erase the past seven years of Yuniceโs suffering? Would it undo the damage to her heartโor his?
Yunice would never trust people again. Sheโd never open her heart so easily.
And Wyattโฆ heโd made a mistake he could never take back.
Could they fix any of that?
No. They couldnโt.
Wyatt dragged the limp man inside, then turned and looked at the rest. โDo I have to haul each one of you in?โ
Terrified, they stood frozen.
Someone yelled, โThereโs more of us! If we rush him together, we can break-โ
Before he could finish, Wyatt slammed a knee into the guyโs jaw, sending him flying into the room.
That was enough.
The groupโs morale shattered. No one dared move against him now.
They filed into the room in silence, trembling.
A few moments later, several greasy, musclebound men with thick beards entered after them. The door locked from the outside.
Victor approached.
Wyatt didnโt even look at him. โRecord everything.โ
Victor frowned, โYouโre dirtying my fatherโs house.โ
Wyatt didnโt care. โIโll burn it down and build him a new one.โ
As screams and sobbing echoed from behind the door, Victor muttered, โYouโre a real piece of work.โ
Wyatt looked over, eyelids half-lowered. โAnd what does that make you?โ
