Chapter 496 No Redemption

These people never cared.

A few careless words from them could destroy a womanโ€™s lifeโ€”push her to the brinkโ€”and all they ever did was mock her weakness, like it was absurd to cry over rumors. Like wanting to die over some โ€œjokesโ€ made her overly sensitive.

Wyatt swept his gaze across the group. โ€œWhich one of you bullied my wife?โ€

No one dared get too close. They kept backing away until they realized Victor was behind them. Thatโ€™s when it finally hit them: they werenโ€™t getting out.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t bully her! It was all Paul! Only Paul!โ€ someone shouted, desperate to shift the blame.

Wyatt grabbed the man who spoke and yanked him forward. The guy was nearly Wyattโ€™s size, but in his fear, he went completely limp. In Wyattโ€™s grip, he looked like a sick chicken.

Wyatt glared at him. โ€œDidnโ€™t you say my wife was wild with Paul? That she was obsessed with him?โ€

The man trembled, shaking his head hard. โ€œI didnโ€™tโ€“I never said that-โ€

Wyattโ€™s eyes were cold, and his smile carried a cruel edge. Talking sense to these people was pointless, so he let go.

The man collapsed onto the floor, visibly relieved. Thinking Wyatt had let him off the hook, he quickly tried to flatter him, turning on Paul in the same breath.

โ€œMr. Wyatt! It was always Paul who bullied Yunice. He spread the rumors! He wanted her, and when he couldnโ€™t have her, he tried to ruin her. Heโ€™s the one who smeared her name!โ€

โ€œYunice is kind and pure. Sheโ€™s a perfect match for youโ€”sheโ€™s spotless!โ€

The others jumped in immediately. โ€œYes, exactly! Thatโ€™s the truth!โ€

Wyatt looked down at his fingers. โ€œOf course my wife is good. But whatโ€™s the point if Iโ€™m the only one who knows?โ€

They werenโ€™t stupid. They got the hint fast.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mr. Wyatt! Weโ€™ll make things right. We all know the truth about what really happened between her and Paul. Weโ€™ll clear her name. Weโ€™ll handle everything.โ€

They all exhaled in relief. Now that they understood what Wyatt wanted, they could work with that. All he wanted was to stand up for his wife, right? That was easy.

The Powell family was finished. Paul was literally hanging half-dead in front of them. There was no point staying loyal. It was every man for himself now.

But Wyatt let out a sharp, cold laugh.

What a joke. This group of spineless cowards could destroy lives with a few wordsโ€”and then try to fix everything with a few more?

Too bad. They might be willing to make it up to Yunice, but Wyatt wasnโ€™t.

Why should they get to โ€œput down the knife and find redemptionโ€?

He pointed toward a nearby room. โ€œAll of you. In there. Now.โ€

Everyone hesitated, confused. No one moved.

Wyattโ€™s reputation wasnโ€™t exactly reassuring. No one could guess what he was thinking. They just knew that when it came to him, nothing good ever came from listeningโ€”or from disobeying.

No one wanted to be the first.

So Wyatt grabbed another man by the collar and dragged him into the room.

The rest panicked.

โ€œMr. Wyatt! We swearโ€”weโ€™ll clear everything up!โ€

Clear things up?

What good would that do?

Would an apology erase the past seven years of Yuniceโ€™s suffering? Would it undo the damage to her heartโ€”or his?

Yunice would never trust people again. Sheโ€™d never open her heart so easily.

And Wyattโ€ฆ heโ€™d made a mistake he could never take back.

Could they fix any of that?

No. They couldnโ€™t.

Wyatt dragged the limp man inside, then turned and looked at the rest. โ€œDo I have to haul each one of you in?โ€

Terrified, they stood frozen.

Someone yelled, โ€œThereโ€™s more of us! If we rush him together, we can break-โ€

Before he could finish, Wyatt slammed a knee into the guyโ€™s jaw, sending him flying into the room.

That was enough.

The groupโ€™s morale shattered. No one dared move against him now.

They filed into the room in silence, trembling.

A few moments later, several greasy, musclebound men with thick beards entered after them. The door locked from the outside.

Victor approached.

Wyatt didnโ€™t even look at him. โ€œRecord everything.โ€

Victor frowned, โ€œYouโ€™re dirtying my fatherโ€™s house.โ€

Wyatt didnโ€™t care. โ€œIโ€™ll burn it down and build him a new one.โ€

As screams and sobbing echoed from behind the door, Victor muttered, โ€œYouโ€™re a real piece of work.โ€

Wyatt looked over, eyelids half-lowered. โ€œAnd what does that make you?โ€

Please let us know if you find any errors, so we can fix them.
