Chapter 422 All Thanks to a Man?

Owen simply chalked up Elsieโ€™s reaction to emotional instability. He didnโ€™t take her complaints seriously and said, โ€œNow that youโ€™re home, just focus on recovering. Over time, maybe the complications will heal.โ€

He stood up as he spoke, telling her to rest.

Lily sat beside Elsieโ€™s bed, her expression full of mixed emotions. The pain in her eyes was real, but all those scars on Elsieโ€™s body made even her own mother feel uncomfortable.

Lily gently suggested, โ€œDonโ€™t overthink things. Just focus on getting better. And maybeโ€ฆ donโ€™t contact Paul for now.โ€

Men were visual creatures. Even she, as Elsieโ€™s mother, found the wounds unsettling. A man would likely find them even more so.

Elsie didnโ€™t have the energy to leave the house anyway, so she had no choice but to accept it.

Wellinges Pharma had become the center of public scrutiny. It was in financial reports, praised and condemned at the same time, and it was the target of countless online rants.

Releasing an antigen to combat the virus brought both praise and criticism, but their medication was the only viable option, so their stock prices skyrocketed. The company made a fortune.

Yunice had also been released from her glass quarantine room. As soon as the lockdown lifted, the volunteer group chat exploded. Everyone acted like wild cats let out of a cage, full of pent-up energy.

What they really missed, of course, was Yuniceโ€™s mansion. They kept begging to see her gardenโ€”and if they could get a glimpse of her slim-waisted husband, that would be perfect.

Yunice chewed her breakfast slowly as she glanced at her phone, which wouldnโ€™t stop buzzing.

Wyatt sat across from her, glaring at her phone with clear disapproval.

What was so fascinating on that screen that it made her ignore her food?

Feeling Wyattโ€™s intense gaze, Yunice looked over and asked, โ€œAre you free today? Some of my friends want to come over. Is that okay?โ€

โ€œHere?โ€ Wyatt asked, his expression serious.

Yunice nodded and hummed, then took another small bite of her sandwich, chewing calmly.

Wyatt said, โ€œSure. Let them have fun. If any of your friends like something, they can have it.โ€

Yunice hesitated. โ€œThey also said... they want to meet youโ€ฆโ€

Just as she finished her sentence, a housekeeper walked over to say the company had calledโ€”something had come up that needed Wyattโ€™s attention.

Yuniceโ€™s face showed a flicker of disappointment. Before Wyatt could say anything, she quickly added, โ€œGo. Itโ€™s just them messing around.โ€

Wyatt looked at her for a moment, then stepped aside to call Jordan.

A few minutes later, he returned. But clearly, the matter at work couldnโ€™t be delayedโ€”he still had to go.

While putting on his coat, Wyatt said, โ€œHave them come again next time.โ€

Next time, heโ€™d be free.

Yunice hadnโ€™t really expected him to stay anyway. She glanced at his collar, then stepped up to fix his tie before he left.

Wyatt looked down at her soft, delicate eyelashes. He couldnโ€™t help but smile.

When she was done, Yunice took a step back. โ€œGo on.โ€

Wyatt stepped outside. In the morning sun, he touched the knot of his tie and got into the car, clearly in a great mood.

Yunice sent the address to the volunteer group chat.

At the appointed time, three vans pulled up outside Pavilion Hall. When the doors opened, nearly twenty people poured out.

The moment they looked up, they all let out a collective โ€œWow.โ€

The building was massive. Stunning.

Yunice had been waiting at the entrance for a while. Once they got over their awe, she waved them over to the shuttle buses.

Pavilion Hall was enormous. Outside vehicles werenโ€™t allowed in, so from the gate to the guest reception area, they had to ride in private shuttles.

Three vans lined up in a row. A mature, composed butler stood at the front, bowed slightly, and said in a clear, formal voice, โ€œLetโ€™s begin the drive.โ€

Everyone looked amazed, exchanging glances and whispering, โ€œThis feels like a scene from a TV dramaโ€ฆโ€ Just then, a quiet but sour voice mumbled, โ€œItโ€™s all thanks to a man anywayโ€ฆโ€

Yunice glanced toward the middle van but didnโ€™t bother finding out who said it. Instead, she walked to the last van and found an empty seat.

She looked over her shoulder and greeted someone in the back row. โ€œTommy.โ€

Tommy nodded and said kindly, โ€œThere are so many of usโ€”your husband wonโ€™t mind, will he?โ€

Right after he spoke, the girl sitting beside Yunice chimed in, โ€œYeah, we didnโ€™t expect someone with your background to even talk to people like usโ€”let alone invite us to your homeโ€ฆโ€

She rubbed her hands awkwardly. โ€œThis is really eye-opening. Land in Silverburgh is insanely expensive, and your place is hugeโ€”bigger than a shopping mallโ€ฆโ€

Then, as if remembering something, she leaned in and whispered, โ€œYunice, youโ€™d better keep an eye on Peggy. Sheโ€™s totally jealous of you.โ€
