Chapter 395 The Cost of a Stolen Name

The medical vehicle passed through the final checkpoint successfully. The moment it cleared, the gate was sealed shut again. From this point forward, no one else would be allowed out of the hospital. The entire facility was now under strict lockdown and constant surveillance.

This would be the last vehicle to leave.

Wyatt, already suited in protective gear, didnโ€™t wait for the vehicle to come to a full stop. He moved toward it at once.

A supervisor tried to stop him. โ€œMr. Wyatt, pleaseโ€“there are too many people around. Letโ€™s wait until we reach the safe zone.โ€

Wyatt shoved him aside and climbed up onto the step of the vehicle. โ€œI need to confirm.โ€

Heโ€™d seen too much to trust blindly. Under extreme conditions, he knew how dark and twisted people could become. He needed to be sure it was Yunicรฉ who had come out.

The supervisor couldnโ€™t hold him back.

Wyatt peered into the transport. Everyone inside was sealed in tight. It was impossible to tell who was whoโ€“not even gender could be clearly distinguished. The passengers stared back at him in silence.

Wyatt narrowed his eyes. โ€œYunice?โ€

One of them glanced toward the far end of the vehicle.

Following that gaze, Wyatt spotted a frail figure curled up in the cornerโ€”clearly a woman. But she had tucked herself behind others, intentionally trying to remain hidden.

That alone was enough to make Wyattโ€™s heart sink.

He stormed into the transport, walked right up to the woman, and grabbed her by the arm. โ€œWhere is Yunice?โ€

If Yunice had really been in here, she would never have backed away from him. She hadnโ€™t made it out.

Someone had dared to pull a switchโ€”right under his nose.

Elsie trembled in his grip, too scared to speak.

Wyatt waited half a minute. Then he lost patience and ripped off her face shield.

Elsieโ€™s terrified expression was instantly revealed to everyone around.

From outside the vehicle, Jordanโ€™s voice rang out in alarm. โ€œThatโ€™s not our person!โ€ โ€œOur contact is still inside!โ€

The supervisor paled in panic and quickly moved to block Jordan. He stammered, โ€œWe canโ€™t go back in. Really, we canโ€™t. This is beyond our jurisdiction now. If this gets out of hand, weโ€™ll all be in for it.โ€

Jordan shouted, โ€œYouโ€™re telling me you took a billion-dollar operation and handed us a fake?! You think Mr. Wyattโ€™s money grows on trees?!โ€

The supervisor stammered, โ€œWe canโ€™t go back. And the moneyโ€ฆ itโ€™s non-refundableโ€ฆโ€

The chaos inside the hospital had already led to mix-ups. It didnโ€™t matter now. There was no going back.

Wyatt clenched his jaw, holding tightly onto Elsie.

He knew Saunders Hospital would never allow another retrieval attempt. No second chances.

His voice was calm, but heavy with menace. โ€œDid you steal her slotโ€ฆ or did she refuse to come?โ€

Elsie froze, caught off guard by the question. She quickly saw the opportunity and leaned into it. โ€œYunice refused to leave! She said disasters are the best chance to earn merit. If she survives, sheโ€™ll be hailed as a hero. Itโ€™d be a huge boost to her rรฉsumรฉโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHehโ€ฆโ€ Wyatt let out a cold laugh, eyes so sharp they seemed to pierce right through her.

โ€œAnd Owen?โ€ he asked.

Elsie hesitated.

Wyatt pressed, โ€œIs Owen still with her?โ€

There was no way Elsie pulled this off alone. Someone helped her deceive the doctors. It had to be him.

Elsie didnโ€™t answer. That was enough.

The siblings had worked together. Theyโ€™d conned Yuniceโ€”and him.

Wyatt released her, stepping back. โ€œYou wanted out. You wanted to live. Letโ€™s see if the outside world feels like paradise to you now.โ€

Elsie didnโ€™t understand his meaning, but the look on his face scared her. It was the kind of look that said someone was about to pay.

Her legs were weak as she watched Wyatt leave the vehicle.

She followed quicklyโ€”she was free now. Sheโ€™d made it out of Saunders Hospital.

But reality was nothing like what sheโ€™d imagined.

She was immediately seized by two doctors in full gear and forced back into the vehicle. The doors slammed shut behind her, and the heavy steel sealed her off once more.

She felt the vehicle lurch forward.

Panic surged through her.

She screamed and pounded on the walls. โ€œWhere are you taking me?! You said once I was out, Iโ€™d be free! You canโ€™t keep me like this!โ€

โ€œLet me out! I want to get off!โ€

The doctors were clearly fed up. One of them shoved her roughly back into her seat. โ€œDid you really think walking out meant everything goes back to normal?โ€

โ€œAnyone whoโ€™s been inside Saunders Hospital gets quarantined and tested. You better pray youโ€™re cleanโ€”otherwise, being out here wonโ€™t make a damn bit of difference.โ€
