Chapter 386 Blocked at the Door

If it were just a stranger, Yunice wouldnโ€™t have been so conflicted. But Tommy had helped her once when everyone else doubted her; he had stood up and spoken on her behalf.

Whether she should repay that kindness, and how, weighed on her mind.

But before she could think it through, she received a call from the Saunders family hospital.

It was the emergency room calling: โ€œHello, Dr. Rylie. Are you acquainted with Thomas?โ€

Yunice hesitated for a moment, then recalled that Thomas was Taylorโ€™s fatherโ€™s nickname. Because she had treated him before, he must have had her number stored in his phone.

The emergency room nurse spoke anxiously, โ€œHeโ€™s been sent to the Saunders family hospital with a persistent high fever. The last number his phone was on was yours. Please come quickly to complete the treatment paperwork.โ€

Yunice found it strange. โ€œDoesnโ€™t he have an assistant with him?โ€

The nurse said, โ€œHis assistant is already unconscious, undergoing emergency resuscitation. And Mr. Thomas himself is barely conscious. Please come quickly.โ€

With lives at stake, Yunice didnโ€™t waste time questioning the callโ€™s authenticity. She immediately phoned Taylor.

She told Taylor to contact Gerado, and Taylor instantly grew anxious. Sure enough, a nurse answered and explained the situation with Gerado.

But Taylor was tied up with work and couldnโ€™t make it back immediately.

Yunice glanced at the road sign outside the car window. โ€œIโ€™m nearby. Iโ€™ll go check things out first.โ€

Hearing this, Taylor hesitated, probably thinking that she and Yunice werenโ€™t close enough for Yunice to rush around for her like this. But how could she know? Yunice was also Dr. Rylie, and in Yuniceโ€™s heart, Taylor was already considered one of her own.

Without wasting any more words, Yunice had Jordan drive her straight to the Saunders family hospital.

Yunice knew the Saunders family hospital very well. She had just rushed to the emergency room entrance when she saw Elsie walking out.

Elsieโ€™s long black hair hung loose. She wasnโ€™t wearing a mask or goggles, not even gloves; her manicured fingernails shiny. She paused with her hand on the door handle. When she saw Yunice, she couldnโ€™t hide the disgust on her face. โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€

Yunice didnโ€™t hold back either. โ€œIโ€™m here for the same reason you are.โ€

Elsie snorted. โ€œIโ€™m here to save lives. You? Save?โ€

Yunice gave her a mocking glance up and down. โ€œWith what qualifications?โ€

โ€œYou think the Health Bureau belongs to your family?โ€ Yunice smiled.

Elsie sneered at her. โ€œI havenโ€™t done anything wrong. Iโ€™m not even a hospital employee. Even if you report me, youโ€™ll need evidence. Otherwise, itโ€™s slander.โ€

This hospital was under Owenโ€™s control; Yunice could forget about getting any evidence against Elsie here.

Yunice wasnโ€™t interested in arguing. She needed to check on Thomas urgently.

So she asked a nearby nurse for protective clothing and professional gloves. As a doctor, basic self-protection was essential. Based on the phone call, Thomas had a persistent high fever, and his assistantโ€™s condition was worse โ€“ already unconscious. Which made it reasonable to suspect the illness was infectious.

But Elsie stretched out an arm to block her. โ€œBy what right are you entering? Why should you use our protective gear? Thereโ€™s no family member of yours in there. Youโ€™re not a doctor here. You have no right to enter.โ€

Yunice said, โ€œIโ€™m the patientโ€™s designated representative. If you delay me and cause consequences, youโ€™ll be held responsible.โ€

After saying that, Yunice directly dialed Taylorโ€™s number and clearly stated that it was Elsie blocking her.

Taylor and Elsie were longtime enemies. Over the phone, Taylor cursed fiercely, saying if Elsie dared delay her fatherโ€™s treatment today, she wouldnโ€™t spare the entire Saunders family!

But even after the call ended, Elsie still refused to move. She sneered at Yunice. โ€œPaulโ€™s about to divorce Taylor anyway. The Kendall familyโ€™s days are numbered; youโ€™re backing the wrong person.โ€

Yunice didnโ€™t bother with her. She simply reached out to snatch the protective gear from the nurseโ€™s hands.

Elsie immediately blocked her again. โ€œI said you canโ€™t go in. Are you deaf?โ€

Yunice stepped forward and stared directly at her. โ€œI know exactly why youโ€™re here.โ€

โ€œYou know Gerado is admitted at the Saunders family hospital. Youโ€™re planning to use your position to let Geradoโ€™s condition deteriorate. That way, Taylor will lose her last backup, and Paul can take advantage.โ€

A flicker of guilt flashed across Elsieโ€™s eyes, but she quickly put on a righteous face. โ€œStop with your conspiracy theories. Iโ€™m just following hospital rules. If we let any random person into the ER, how could the hospital even function?โ€

Just then, Elsieโ€™s gaze shifted behind Yunice, and her tone immediately changed. โ€œOwen, youโ€™re finally here! I donโ€™t know why Yunice is so insistent on barging into the ER. I tried to stop her, but she even tried to hit meโ€ฆโ€
