Chapter 382 Seeds of Deception

"You can never be too careful," Wyatt said. โ€œIโ€™ll have someone warn the Kendall family.โ€

Taylor had returned to her familyโ€™s home. Paul grew increasingly uneasy the more he thought about it.

He was sure Taylor had poisoned them โ€“ he just hadnโ€™t caught her red-handed yet.

Now that Taylor wasnโ€™t home, it was the perfect time to search.

He and Taylor had been sleeping in separate rooms, so he sneaked into Taylorโ€™s bedroom, rummaging through her private belongings.

Taylor was very cautious. The room had nothing unusual.

But Paul found an empty medicine packet in the trash bin.

โ€œChurchโ€ฆโ€ Paul immediately thought of that suspicious clinic.

There was a deli next to the clinic run by Gill, and that mysterious clinic owner โ€“ everything about the place felt off.

What Paul couldnโ€™t understand was when Taylor and Yunice had gotten so close.

If Yunice hadnโ€™t intervened earlier, maybe he could have landed a few more hits on Taylor.

Paul got up and called Elsie.

Ever since Elsie had been stabbed last time, she had been hospitalized. Owen, feeling guilty, insisted she stay the full hundred days to recuperate, though honestly her wound had long since healed.

On the call, Paul told Elsie that he and Taylor had fallen out and were about to divorce. This gave Elsie huge confidence.

Paul went on to say he wanted Elsie to nourish her health. Once she bore his child, the Lu family would have no reason to reject her anymore.

Elsie believed him. She thought he truly wanted to marry her โ€“ even coming up with a plan like this โ€“ and she happily agreed.

Paul then recommended Church clinic to Elsie, telling her to start treatment there immediately.

So Elsie made up a story, asking Owen to accompany her to the clinic, saying it had excellent doctors who could help her recover her vitality. Owen agreed and went with her.

Outside the clinic, Owen noticed a bustling deli next door, but didnโ€™t care to check who the owner was.

Inside Jishantang, there was only a doctor veiled in black gauze. Seeing her strange outfit, Owen finally rememberedโ€“he had been here once before.

Elsie sat down and explained her request to Yunice.

Yunice gave a soft response, methodically taking Elsieโ€™s pulse, without revealing her identity.

At this moment, Elsie said, โ€œOwen, Iโ€™m a little hungry. Thereโ€™s a deli next door. Could you buy me something?โ€

Owen agreed, and Yuniceโ€™s gaze shifted slightly behind the black gauze, watching Owenโ€™s back as he left.

Since Elsie had taken a knife for him, Owen had become utterly devoted to her.

Yunice noticed Elsie staring at her โ€“ those unsettling eyes seemingly trying to see through the veil to her true appearance.

After a while, seeing nothing unusual, Elsie whispered, โ€œDoctor, do you think I can still get pregnant?โ€

Back when she first got together with Paul, Yunice hadnโ€™t broken the engagement yet, so Elsie had used contraception for a while.

Later, for more than a year, she hadnโ€™t used any protection, had been with Paul many times, yet never conceived.

She was worried her body could no longer bear a child.

Yunice almost laughed inside. The one who couldnโ€™t bear children wasnโ€™t Elsie โ€“ it was Paul.

If no seeds are planted, how could any fruit grow?

Yunice said, โ€œYour body is very suitable for pregnancy. Thereโ€™s no problem.โ€

Elsie said, โ€œI donโ€™t believe it. Iโ€™ve gone so long without conceiving.โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œWho said you havenโ€™t? You just conceived recently.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Elsie stared in disbelief, suspecting Yunice was a quack.

She had just returned from the hospital, undergone countless examinations because of her injuries. If she were pregnant, thereโ€™s no way it wouldnโ€™t have been discovered.

She was about to press further when Owen returned, and Elsie quickly squeezed Yuniceโ€™s hand, signaling her not to say anything reckless.

When Owen had bought the deli food, he hadnโ€™t encountered Gill because Yunice had warned Gill ahead of time when they entered.

It was only a deli worker who had served Owen.

Yunice didnโ€™t prescribe Elsie any medicine. Owen frowned, puzzled. โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you prescribe anything?โ€

Because if I give you medicine, youโ€™ll turn around and accuse me later, Yunice thought.

She said calmly, โ€œMs. Saundersโ€™s body has recovered very well. No additional treatment is necessary.โ€

Owen frowned harder, pulling Elsie up. โ€œI think sheโ€™s just an unskilled doctor who didnโ€™t dare prescribe anything. Your complexion still isnโ€™t good. Weโ€™ll go to a more reputable hospital.โ€

But Elsieโ€™s mind was still stuck on what Yunice had said earlier about her having just conceived. What did that mean?

Elsie didnโ€™t want to leave. At that moment, a young man walked into the clinicโ€“he looked educated and refined.

It seemed to be his first visit, as he glanced briefly at both Elsie and Owen.

Then his eyes fell on Elsie, and he smiled, asking, โ€œHave you just had surgery?โ€

Owen grew tense. โ€œDoes she really look that sick?โ€

Otherwise, how could a random passerby spot it at a glance?
