Chapter 362 Who Really Stands With Me

Elsieโ€™s eyes widened. She couldnโ€™t believe a man with a warm 98.6โ€“degree body could say something that cold.

Whereโ€™s Carlโ€™s legendary composure?

Even Owen couldnโ€™t take it anymore. He snapped, โ€œMr. Carl, Elsieโ€™s the victim here. Donโ€™t you think youโ€™re being unfair?โ€

Carl shot back, โ€œUse your brain for once. Her father killed your father. Sheโ€™s the daughter of your enemy. You might choose to turn a blind eye, but do you really expect Yunice to? A person like her should be laying low at home, not strutting around in front of people who despise her. Is she here to flaunt that, as a murdererโ€™s daughter, sheโ€™s been forgiven by the victimโ€™s family and is living a good life?โ€

Owenโ€™s frustration boiled over. โ€œMr. Carl, her father made the mistake, not her. You canโ€™t punish the whole family for one personโ€™s crime!โ€

Carl jabbed a finger at him. โ€œIf I were your father, I wouldโ€™ve beaten you to death myself!โ€

Owenโ€™s face drained of color. He clammed up under Carlโ€™s scolding.

Behind him, Elsie tugged at his sleeve. Their eyes metโ€”both of them looking like theyโ€™d been wronged, both wearing the same pitiful expression.

Yunice looked up. She could see Owen wasnโ€™t the least bit sorry.

And she wasnโ€™t about to let them off the hook with just a few angry words.

She turned to Oscar and said calmly, โ€œOscar, can you get Mr. Carl a chair?โ€

Oscar blinked, then finally got the message and hurried to fetch one.

The moment Carl sat down, Owenโ€™s face twisted. Heโ€™s settling in? Heโ€™s not leaving?

Yunice shifted slowly, propping herself up in bed. She looked straight at Owen. โ€œYou said you came to stand up for me. So how exactly do you plan to do that?โ€

Owen replied, โ€œBy bringing you back to the Saunders family, of course. So we can take care of you properly.โ€

Yuniceโ€™s eyes narrowed. โ€œThatโ€™s funny. Because before Mr. Carl arrived, you werenโ€™t saying anything about taking care of me. You said you were going to throw me back in the psych ward. Said youโ€™d let me out once I โ€˜learned to behave.โ€™โ€

Owen was briefly speechless, then quickly said, โ€œI only said that because you bit Elsie. I was angry. But seriously, you need to get your head checked. I donโ€™t think your mental issues ever got better. Youโ€™re always stirring up trouble, always violent. Just ask Elsieโ€“how many injuries has she gotten because of you?โ€

Oscar had heard enough. He stepped forward and pointed at Owen. โ€œYou care about your sister? Well, I care about mine. If she did something wrong, then say it. Bring us all here, lay out the facts. If she has mental issues, fineโ€”weโ€™ll get it checked out. But who gave you the right to tie her up? Who gave you the right to restrain her? Iโ€™m her big brother. Who the hell are you to decide how sheโ€™s treated?โ€

Owen bristled under the criticism. โ€œWhat are you saying, Oscar? Your sister, my sisterโ€“Yunice is my sister too. Why would I want to hurt her?โ€

Oscar exploded. โ€œThen why didnโ€™t you tie up that illegitimate sister of yours with IV tubing?โ€

โ€œWatch your mouth, Oscar! What do you mean, โ€˜illegitimateโ€˜?!โ€

โ€œThen how about you define โ€˜mental illnessโ€˜? You know better than anyone whether Yunice ever had any. Donโ€™t act like you donโ€™t!โ€

Yunice didnโ€™t want to hear them go on. She gently patted Oscarโ€™s arm, and he fell silent.

She looked at Owen again and asked in an even tone, โ€œLet me ask again. You said you came to stand up for me. Is that really all it meansโ€”just taking me home?โ€

Owen countered, โ€œWhat else do you want?โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œYou donโ€™t plan on helping me get justice?โ€

Oscar chimed in. โ€œYeah, funny how you go all out defending your little stray sister, but when itโ€™s my sister whoโ€™s hurt, suddenly youโ€™re out of steam?โ€

That hit a nerve. Owen snapped back at Oscar. โ€œYou talk a big game, but where were you? I didnโ€™t see you doing anything to stand up for her.โ€

Wyatt had supposedly hit Yunice. Was Oscar really planning to go toeโ€“toโ€“toe with him?

Oscar didnโ€™t flinch. โ€œAnd who said I wonโ€™t stand up for her? When Wyatt gets here, however he hit Yunice, Iโ€™ll return the favorโ€”blow for blow. You in or not?โ€

Owen glanced nervously at Carl, then answered stiffly, โ€œYou think Iโ€™m afraid?โ€

After all, Carl was here. Wyatt wouldnโ€™t dare go too far.

Yunice looked at Owen again. โ€œIs that how it is with everyone whoโ€™s hurt me? Youโ€™ll get back at all of them?โ€

Owen frowned โ€œWho else hurt you?โ€

Without a word, Yunice slowly lifted the blanket off her lap.

Everyone assumed she was about to get out of bed.
