Chapter 362 Who Really Stands With Me
Elsieโs eyes widened. She couldnโt believe a man with a warm 98.6โdegree body could say something that cold.
Whereโs Carlโs legendary composure?
Even Owen couldnโt take it anymore. He snapped, โMr. Carl, Elsieโs the victim here. Donโt you think youโre being unfair?โ
Carl shot back, โUse your brain for once. Her father killed your father. Sheโs the daughter of your enemy. You might choose to turn a blind eye, but do you really expect Yunice to? A person like her should be laying low at home, not strutting around in front of people who despise her. Is she here to flaunt that, as a murdererโs daughter, sheโs been forgiven by the victimโs family and is living a good life?โ
Owenโs frustration boiled over. โMr. Carl, her father made the mistake, not her. You canโt punish the whole family for one personโs crime!โ
Carl jabbed a finger at him. โIf I were your father, I wouldโve beaten you to death myself!โ
Owenโs face drained of color. He clammed up under Carlโs scolding.
Behind him, Elsie tugged at his sleeve. Their eyes metโboth of them looking like theyโd been wronged, both wearing the same pitiful expression.
Yunice looked up. She could see Owen wasnโt the least bit sorry.
And she wasnโt about to let them off the hook with just a few angry words.
She turned to Oscar and said calmly, โOscar, can you get Mr. Carl a chair?โ
Oscar blinked, then finally got the message and hurried to fetch one.
The moment Carl sat down, Owenโs face twisted. Heโs settling in? Heโs not leaving?
Yunice shifted slowly, propping herself up in bed. She looked straight at Owen. โYou said you came to stand up for me. So how exactly do you plan to do that?โ
Owen replied, โBy bringing you back to the Saunders family, of course. So we can take care of you properly.โ
Yuniceโs eyes narrowed. โThatโs funny. Because before Mr. Carl arrived, you werenโt saying anything about taking care of me. You said you were going to throw me back in the psych ward. Said youโd let me out once I โlearned to behave.โโ
Owen was briefly speechless, then quickly said, โI only said that because you bit Elsie. I was angry. But seriously, you need to get your head checked. I donโt think your mental issues ever got better. Youโre always stirring up trouble, always violent. Just ask Elsieโhow many injuries has she gotten because of you?โ
Oscar had heard enough. He stepped forward and pointed at Owen. โYou care about your sister? Well, I care about mine. If she did something wrong, then say it. Bring us all here, lay out the facts. If she has mental issues, fineโweโll get it checked out. But who gave you the right to tie her up? Who gave you the right to restrain her? Iโm her big brother. Who the hell are you to decide how sheโs treated?โ
Owen bristled under the criticism. โWhat are you saying, Oscar? Your sister, my sisterโYunice is my sister too. Why would I want to hurt her?โ
Oscar exploded. โThen why didnโt you tie up that illegitimate sister of yours with IV tubing?โ
โWatch your mouth, Oscar! What do you mean, โillegitimateโ?!โ
โThen how about you define โmental illnessโ? You know better than anyone whether Yunice ever had any. Donโt act like you donโt!โ
Yunice didnโt want to hear them go on. She gently patted Oscarโs arm, and he fell silent.
She looked at Owen again and asked in an even tone, โLet me ask again. You said you came to stand up for me. Is that really all it meansโjust taking me home?โ
Owen countered, โWhat else do you want?โ
Yunice replied, โYou donโt plan on helping me get justice?โ
Oscar chimed in. โYeah, funny how you go all out defending your little stray sister, but when itโs my sister whoโs hurt, suddenly youโre out of steam?โ
That hit a nerve. Owen snapped back at Oscar. โYou talk a big game, but where were you? I didnโt see you doing anything to stand up for her.โ
Wyatt had supposedly hit Yunice. Was Oscar really planning to go toeโtoโtoe with him?
Oscar didnโt flinch. โAnd who said I wonโt stand up for her? When Wyatt gets here, however he hit Yunice, Iโll return the favorโblow for blow. You in or not?โ
Owen glanced nervously at Carl, then answered stiffly, โYou think Iโm afraid?โ
After all, Carl was here. Wyatt wouldnโt dare go too far.
Yunice looked at Owen again. โIs that how it is with everyone whoโs hurt me? Youโll get back at all of them?โ
Owen frowned โWho else hurt you?โ
Without a word, Yunice slowly lifted the blanket off her lap.
Everyone assumed she was about to get out of bed.
