Chapter 316 Two Choices +8 Pearls
Owen snapped. โHeโs already married! It doesnโt matter if youโre unwillingโyouโre the other woman, you know that?โ
โYunice was able to cut her losses in time. Why canโt you? She left Paul, and now sheโs doing just fine with Wyatt.โ
Again with the comparisons to Yunice. Why was everyone suddenly on Yuniceโs side?
Elsie said, โBut if I donโt sell the car, I wonโt be able to pay back the five million I oweโฆโ
Owen said righteously, โThen why did you borrow it in the first place?โ
โWhy did you bring Jasonโs wife to the birthday banquet?โ Elsie argued. โOwen, it really wasnโt me. Yunice set me up. That day at the birthday banquet, sheโs the one who locked Paul and me in there together!โ
Owen shook his head. โYouโre still making excuses. Elsie, when did you become so calculating?โ
Elsieโs heart thudded. She knew Owenโs patience with her was running out.
Her gaze instantly dropped, looking like she was about to cry. โOwen, I know I was wrong. Iโll return everything Paul gave me right away."
Owen finally softened. He patted her shoulder and comforted her, โElsie, believe me, things will get better. Iโve already lost Yunice. I donโt want to lose you too. So pleaseโฆ donโt let me down again.โ
Yunice sat in the car, the window cracked just slightly, but Owenโs words came through loud and clear.
So in Owenโs mind, even now, he still thought she left because she had let him down?
He probably hadnโt realized that the bigger disappointment hadnโt even come yet.
After leaving the pawn shop, Owen and Elsie returned to the Saunders family home and gathered everything Paul had ever givenโgifts, deeds, jewelry.
Then they charged over to the Powell family.
But what was humiliating wasโฆ they couldnโt even get the door open.
Just then, another car pulled up beneath the Powell estateโs arched entrance.
Yunice and Oscar got out of the car.
Yunice wore a loose-fitting qipao with a shawl draped over her shoulders. Without looking left or right, she walked up to the Powell familyโs front gate and raised her hand to knock.
Owen saw it was her. A flash of something crossed his eyes, but he quickly remembered that Yunice had already cut ties with him.
His pride wouldnโt allow him to show anything else, so his face quickly turned cold again.
He turned to Oscar and asked, โOscar, what are you doing here?โ
Oscar gave him a sideways glance. โYou alone represent the Saunders family now?โ
Then he shot a look of disgust at Elsie. โWhen she made a fool of herself, it wasnโt just your face she disgraced.โ
Owen swallowed his anger and asked, โThen what is she doing here?โ
Oscar said, โIf Yunice werenโt here, you wouldnโt even make it past the front gate of the Powell family.โ
Even if the Powell family didnโt think much of Yunice, she had Wyatt behind her. Offending her meant offending Wyatt.
The Powell family still needed Wyatt. They wouldnโt make trouble for her over something like this.
Owenโs face flushed with embarrassment. Having to rely on Yunice to get in left him feeling humiliated.
Elsie was clenching her skirt so hard that the fabric was nearly torn.
Paul was being kept under house arrest in his own courtyard. When he saw Elsie, he was momentarily stunned.
But the next moment, his gaze shiftedโfalling onto Yunice, who had just stepped in behind her.
And thenโฆ he just kept staring.
Elsie noticed immediately, and her eyes turned red. She stepped in front of him, trying to pull Paulโs attention back.
โPaul, letโs break up. This is everything youโve given me over the yearsโthe car deeds, house deeds, jewelry. Itโs all here. From now on, we owe each other nothing.โ
โBreak up?โ Paul immediately flared up. โWhy are we breaking up?โ
Owen heard that and was instantly enraged. He stormed forward and said, โDo you even hear yourself? Youโre already married, and youโre still trying to drag Elsie into this?โ
Paul turned to Owen and said, โBut hasnโt it always been this way? Why didnโt you talk about breaking up before? Now that Iโve run into some trouble, now youโre all cutting ties with me?โ
His sharp gaze swept across both Elsie and Owen. โWhat is it? You realized thereโs nothing more to gain from me?โ
Before they could say anything, Yunice stepped forward with a faint smile, giving Elsie a sidelong glance.
โMs. Elsie and Mr. Owen are very principled people,โ she said. โArenโt they here to return everything you gave them over the years, just to settle things properly?โ
Elsie bit her lip so hard she nearly broke the skin. Hearing Yunice say that made her stomach churn.
She had thought Yunice came just to watch her fall.
Yunice continued, โMr. Paul, the way I see it, you only have two choices. One, divorce Taylor and give Ms. Elsie a proper title. Or two, break things off completely, go your separate waysโjust like we did.โ
Paul looked into her eyes.
And for a long timeโฆ he just kept looking.
