Chapter 307 Unwanted Debts

Lily choked. โThose were all gifts from Paul. Now that Owenโs forcing her to cut ties with him, she has to return everythingโฆโ
Oscar let out a cold laugh. โIf youโd done that from the start, you wouldnโt have embarrassed yourselves so badly. Yuniceโs name wouldnโt have been dragged down with you.โ
Lily was speechless.
In the Saunders family, they always blamed Yunice for ruining the familyโs reputation. How did it flip around now?
But she needed something, so she didnโt dare argue back. All she could do was cry and plead. โNowโs not the time to talk about that. Fengdong, help me out just this once. Iโll pay you back. Just think of it as a loan, please?โ
Oscar said bluntly, โI donโt have money.โ
His research hadnโt yielded any returns yet โ he had nothing.
He looked down at the diamond in his hand. Yunice had taken it off the cake last night and handed it to him for fun.
He could probably sell it for something.
He hesitated, debating whether to bail Lily out.
Lily, sensing that hesitation, tried to steer him. โYou and Yunice get along well. Could you maybe ask her for help? Sheโs with Wyatt now. She must have money, right?โ
After all, every time Lily saw Yunice, she was wearing something gorgeous โ probably gifted by Wyatt.
What she didnโt realize was that the moment she said those words, Oscarโs face darkened. He clutched the diamond in his hand and made up his mind not to give it away.
โYunice married up. The last thing she needs is for us to use her to fund the family. That kind of thing makes a husband look down on his wife. Have you thought about how that might affect her in the long run?โ
Lily snapped, โYou blockhead. Marrying up means you get to enjoy his money and connections. Otherwise, whatโs the point of marrying him?โ
Oscar said, โEven if itโs for the money, it should be for her to enjoy. You people never gave Yunice a dime โ what right do you have to spend her money now?โ
He hung up.
Lily stared at her now silent phone, stunned. Then, two seconds later, she burst into tears.
โI gave birth to two kids, nearly cost me my life, and theyโre both ungrateful! Not a single one is willing to help me! I donโt believe I canโt raise a lousy five million!โ
The next morning, Yunice woke up in Wyattโs bedroom to find him still at home โ surprisingly, he hadnโt gone to work.
She glanced at her phone. It was already ten.
Theyโd all had a great time last night, and since everyone present was someone she trusted, sheโd let her guard down and had a bit to drink.
Just a little.
Wyatt had brought her home and tucked her into bed. He hadnโt laid a hand on her.
She got up and went into the bathroom. When she looked in the mirror, she realized Wyatt had even helped her take off her makeup.
After freshening up, she went downstairs.
He often stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, talking for long stretches โ ten, fifteen minutes at a time.
So whenever she ran into him, she almost always saw his back first.

But Wyatt had broad shoulders, long legs, and elegant hands gripping the phone โ his arm muscles defined beneath his shirt.
He looked better than any male lead on TV.
Noticing her movement, Wyatt glanced back and said into the receiver, โWeโll talk later.โ
He pocketed his phone and walked over, sitting naturally across from Yunice at the dining table.
โFreya sent over your birthday gift first thing this morning.โ
Yunice perked up and immediately checked out the three shopping bags placed beside the table.
Three bagsโฆ she had a pretty good guess: Freya, Carl, and Victor.
She opened each one.
A bottle of rare, discontinued perfume โ clearly from Freya.
A sleek fountain pen โ definitely Victorโs style.
The third box contained only a thin envelope. It was so slim she couldnโt even guess what was inside.
Yunice smiled. โItโs been ages since Iโve gotten this many presents. Feels like opening mystery boxes.โ
Wyatt leaned lazily against his chair, head tilted as he watched her carefully open the envelope.
She didnโt want to damage anything, so she asked a maid for a utility knife and carefully cut through the wax seal.
Then she held the envelope from both sides and slowly slid the contents out.
As soon as she saw the photograph, Yunice froze.
Wyatt noticed her expression shift and sat up straighter, glancing at the photo.
It was old, yellowed. The people in it looked young and a little awkward.
But it was clear enough โ her father, Will, and Carl, back in their youth.
Yunice stared at her fatherโs face in the picture. Her lips curved into a smile, but her eyes turned red.
She had been gone for three years, and by the time she came back, almost all of her fatherโs belongings had been cleared out.
She never thought sheโd get to see a photo of him again.
At that moment, a maid approached Wyatt and whispered behind him, โSir, the old house just called. Theyโre asking if you and Madam could visit sometime soon.โ
