Chapter 307 Unwanted Debts

+8 Pearls

Lily choked. โ€œThose were all gifts from Paul. Now that Owenโ€™s forcing her to cut ties with him, she has to return everythingโ€ฆโ€

Oscar let out a cold laugh. โ€œIf youโ€™d done that from the start, you wouldnโ€™t have embarrassed yourselves so badly. Yuniceโ€™s name wouldnโ€™t have been dragged down with you.โ€

Lily was speechless.

In the Saunders family, they always blamed Yunice for ruining the familyโ€™s reputation. How did it flip around now?

But she needed something, so she didnโ€™t dare argue back. All she could do was cry and plead. โ€œNowโ€™s not the time to talk about that. Fengdong, help me out just this once. Iโ€™ll pay you back. Just think of it as a loan, please?โ€

Oscar said bluntly, โ€œI donโ€™t have money.โ€

His research hadnโ€™t yielded any returns yet โ€“ he had nothing.

He looked down at the diamond in his hand. Yunice had taken it off the cake last night and handed it to him for fun.

He could probably sell it for something.

He hesitated, debating whether to bail Lily out.

Lily, sensing that hesitation, tried to steer him. โ€œYou and Yunice get along well. Could you maybe ask her for help? Sheโ€™s with Wyatt now. She must have money, right?โ€

After all, every time Lily saw Yunice, she was wearing something gorgeous โ€“ probably gifted by Wyatt.

What she didnโ€™t realize was that the moment she said those words, Oscarโ€™s face darkened. He clutched the diamond in his hand and made up his mind not to give it away.

โ€œYunice married up. The last thing she needs is for us to use her to fund the family. That kind of thing makes a husband look down on his wife. Have you thought about how that might affect her in the long run?โ€

Lily snapped, โ€œYou blockhead. Marrying up means you get to enjoy his money and connections. Otherwise, whatโ€™s the point of marrying him?โ€

Oscar said, โ€œEven if itโ€™s for the money, it should be for her to enjoy. You people never gave Yunice a dime โ€“ what right do you have to spend her money now?โ€

He hung up.

Lily stared at her now silent phone, stunned. Then, two seconds later, she burst into tears.

โ€œI gave birth to two kids, nearly cost me my life, and theyโ€™re both ungrateful! Not a single one is willing to help me! I donโ€™t believe I canโ€™t raise a lousy five million!โ€

The next morning, Yunice woke up in Wyattโ€™s bedroom to find him still at home โ€“ surprisingly, he hadnโ€™t gone to work.

She glanced at her phone. It was already ten.

Theyโ€™d all had a great time last night, and since everyone present was someone she trusted, sheโ€™d let her guard down and had a bit to drink.

Just a little.

Wyatt had brought her home and tucked her into bed. He hadnโ€™t laid a hand on her.

She got up and went into the bathroom. When she looked in the mirror, she realized Wyatt had even helped her take off her makeup.

After freshening up, she went downstairs.

He often stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, talking for long stretches โ€“ ten, fifteen minutes at a time.

So whenever she ran into him, she almost always saw his back first.

But Wyatt had broad shoulders, long legs, and elegant hands gripping the phone โ€“ his arm muscles defined beneath his shirt.

He looked better than any male lead on TV.

Noticing her movement, Wyatt glanced back and said into the receiver, โ€œWeโ€™ll talk later.โ€

He pocketed his phone and walked over, sitting naturally across from Yunice at the dining table.

โ€œFreya sent over your birthday gift first thing this morning.โ€

Yunice perked up and immediately checked out the three shopping bags placed beside the table.

Three bagsโ€ฆ she had a pretty good guess: Freya, Carl, and Victor.

She opened each one.

A bottle of rare, discontinued perfume โ€“ clearly from Freya.

A sleek fountain pen โ€“ definitely Victorโ€™s style.

The third box contained only a thin envelope. It was so slim she couldnโ€™t even guess what was inside.

Yunice smiled. โ€œItโ€™s been ages since Iโ€™ve gotten this many presents. Feels like opening mystery boxes.โ€

Wyatt leaned lazily against his chair, head tilted as he watched her carefully open the envelope.

She didnโ€™t want to damage anything, so she asked a maid for a utility knife and carefully cut through the wax seal.

Then she held the envelope from both sides and slowly slid the contents out.

As soon as she saw the photograph, Yunice froze.

Wyatt noticed her expression shift and sat up straighter, glancing at the photo.

It was old, yellowed. The people in it looked young and a little awkward.

But it was clear enough โ€“ her father, Will, and Carl, back in their youth.

Yunice stared at her fatherโ€™s face in the picture. Her lips curved into a smile, but her eyes turned red.

She had been gone for three years, and by the time she came back, almost all of her fatherโ€™s belongings had been cleared out.

She never thought sheโ€™d get to see a photo of him again.

At that moment, a maid approached Wyatt and whispered behind him, โ€œSir, the old house just called. Theyโ€™re asking if you and Madam could visit sometime soon.โ€
