Chapter 280: Staged Performance
After a moment of silence, Morgan still didnโt hear any response from Yunice. He was so focused on the winding road that he didnโt dare look away, so he hadnโt noticed Yuniceโs expression. Finally, curiosity got the better of him. He looked over at her in the passenger seatโฆ
Yunice smiled and turned her head, meeting his gaze. โIs this all you can do?โ
That moment hit Morgan harder than any terrifying scene in a horror film. Yunice raised an eyebrow and added, โYou crossed the line, trash.โ
Morganโs face twisted in fear as he quickly slammed the steering wheel to correct the carโs path. He swerved dangerously along the narrow road, managing to barely regain control of the vehicle. At the same time, rocks from the cliff edge tumbled down the mountain behind them.
Sweat poured from Morganโs palms, his hands trembling with fear. His widened eyes couldnโt understand why Yunice wasnโt afraid. Does a crazy person have no sense of fear? He found it all so boring. Since Yunice didnโt react as he expected, he started losing interest.
Just then, Wyatt called Yunice again. Yunice glanced at Morgan, then calmly answered the call. She held the phone up and shouted, โMr. Morgan, slow down! Youโre going to crash! Help!โ
Morganโs eyes widened in panic as he glanced at Yunice. What is she doing? I have been slowing down!
โMorgan, I really canโt agree to your request. Please donโt joke with your life. Wyatt will really be mad!โ
โYou bastard!โ Morgan was about to curse when Yunice tossed her phone out of the window, shouting, โNo!โ
Morgan froze in shock, staring at Yuniceโs staged performance. She pretended to be forced by him and, at the crucial moment, threw her phone out to make Wyatt think she was in danger.
Morgan stammered, โYouโฆ are really crazyโฆโ
Yunice gave him a sly smile and leaned closer to grab the steering wheel. Morgan was terrified. For someone who loved racing, the steering wheel was his life. He instinctively fought Yunice for control of the wheel, forgetting to ease off the accelerator.
Yunice, despite her frail-looking frame, managed to pull hard on the wheel, fighting him for control.
Jordan chased after Wyattโs car but couldnโt catch up. After running a few steps, his mind cleared, and he realized they had all acted impulsively. He couldnโt afford to be reckless now.
Taking a deep breath, Jordan immediately called the hospital, instructing them to prepare emergency measures. Once the call ended, he turned to the group of young men in the car behind him. โHow much fuel does Morganโs car have left?โ
He hoped they would run out of fuel soon, causing the car to stop by itself. Otherwise, with Morganโs hot-headed nature, if he saw Wyatt chasing him, he would only speed up. The winding mountain road had a cliff on one side, and one wrong move could send the car tumbling down.
Mary was afraid of Morgan getting hurt, which was why she had asked Wyatt to stop him. But now Yunice was at the racetrack, making things even more complicated.
The young men stammered, โMorganโs car just got a full tank, butโฆ but, Mr. Cooperโฆโ
Jordanโs heart skipped a beat. โTell me quickly!โ
โMr. Cooperโs carโฆ the brakesโฆ they were just checked, and thereโs a problem with them. They havenโt been fixed yetโฆโ
Jordan froze before letting out a furious shout. โWhat the hell were you doing?!โ
The group of young men cowered in fear, sitting on the ground and covering their heads. โWeโฆ we just remembered. Mr. Jordan, think of something.โ
โI canโt think of anything! What do you expect me to do, drop from the sky and stop the car?โ Jordan yelled. He felt like his head was about to explode.
No one dared to speak. They all understood the dangerโracing at that speed without working brakes was a recipe for disaster.
On the mountain road, Morganโs car was going full throttle, the speedometer reaching its limit. He was laughing maniacally while steering the car, drifting wildly through the curves. But Yunice remained silent in the passenger seat.
Morgan, feeling the lack of excitement, couldnโt help but wonder. He had been hoping to hear Yunice scream in fear, but she didnโt make a sound. The car was already struggling to gain more speed.
At that moment, Yuniceโs phone rang. She glanced at the screen and saw Wyattโs call. She thought for a moment, then decided not to answer. She didnโt know that Wyattโs car was just on the other side of the mountain, only half a lap behind them.
The wind was making it hard for Morgan to breathe. He shouted, โHahaha, crazy girl, youโve been quiet for so long, are you finally scared? If youโre scared, just scream and move aside, and Iโll let you go!โ
