Chapter 274: Donโ€™t Make Me Call My Husband

Only those truly wronged understand the depth of such injustice. The man was furious. โ€œKeep dragging us into this nonsense, and I swear Iโ€™llโ€”โ€

โ€œYou all owe me exactly 1.11 million dollars,โ€ Yunice calmly interrupted.

โ€œYour ass!โ€ The man lunged, reaching for her collar.

Yunice raised her voice, unflinching. โ€œI suggest you behave. Right now, youโ€™re dealing with me. If my husband shows up, things will get ugly.โ€

The moment she mentioned her husband, Elsieโ€™s face turned ashen. She instantly clutched the manโ€™s arm, her voice trembling. โ€œItโ€™s just money, just a little money. Letโ€™s not make a big deal of it with my sisterโ€ฆโ€

The man looked at her like sheโ€™d lost her mind. โ€œLittle money? 1.11 million?! Have you completely lost it?โ€ He flung off her hand. โ€œSince youโ€™re such a saint, you pay!โ€

Elsieโ€™s face collapsed. โ€œI havenโ€™t even officially started working yetโ€ฆ I really donโ€™t have that kind of money.โ€

The man rolled his eyes. โ€œThen why act all noble? You think I should pay for your mess? Youโ€™re the one who accused her. Itโ€™s on you!โ€

Elsie tried to shift blame. โ€œBut I didnโ€™t tell you to grab her bagโ€ฆโ€

The man was furious. โ€œOh, so now Iโ€™m the idiot in your little scam?โ€

Someone nearby muttered, โ€œHow do we know that ringโ€™s even real? Could be a con to trap us.โ€ Yunice raised a brow. โ€œWell then, I suppose Iโ€™ll have my husband verify it.โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ Elsie cried, panicked. The mere thought of Wyatt made her blood run cold. Even if it meant losing everything tonight, she couldnโ€™t let him come.

She immediately turned back to the crowd, almost pleading. โ€œPlease donโ€™t doubt Yunice. That ring is definitely real. We broke her stuff. Itโ€™s only right we pay.โ€

Her words had barely landed when the room exploded.

โ€œElsie, you hypocrite! Iโ€™ve had enough of you!โ€

โ€œThis whole thingโ€™s a setup, isnโ€™t it? You two sisters are scamming us. Has the Saunders family fallen so low theyโ€™re staging extortion schemes now?โ€

Elsie was stuck in the middle, like an ant on a hot pan. She turned desperately to Owen, but he was too drunk to even stand.

Panicked, she stomped her foot. โ€œFine! Iโ€™ll borrow the money! Iโ€™ll write IOUs, okay?โ€

Someone sneered. โ€œWhy are you so scared of her? Is her husband really that powerful?โ€

Powerful? The man who once sewed someoneโ€™s mouth shut in a fit of anger? That was an understatement.

Elsie clasped her hands and sobbed, pleading. โ€œPlease, Iโ€™m begging you allโ€ฆโ€

Her tears were convincing, but no one wanted to be the scapegoat. They had come for fun and left with drama.

There were eleven people in the room. Evenly split, they each owed over 95,000 dollars.

Someone finally sighed, โ€œI can lend 3,000 dollars; take it or leave it.โ€

The rest echoed similarly modest offers. After collecting everything, they were still 700,000 dollars short.

Elsie looked pitifully at the man who had grabbed Yuniceโ€™s bag, eyes swimming with tears. He scratched his head in disbelief. โ€œWeโ€™re looking at 700,000 dollars!โ€

Yunice smiled faintly. โ€œHer boyfriendโ€™s the eldest son of the Powell family. Surely 700,000 dollars isnโ€™t a problem?โ€

That seemed to convince him. With a half-glance at Elsie and perhaps with an ulterior motive, he pulled out a check. โ€œFine. Iโ€™ll lend you 700,000 dollars.โ€

Yunice reminded coolly, โ€œDonโ€™t forget the IOUs, everyone. Itโ€™s best to have documentation. It saves arguments later.โ€

Elsie shot her a venomous glare, on the verge of choking from rage. She had only gone through Yuniceโ€™s bag hoping to fish out something valuable and ended up losing so much money.

Once the dust settled, Yunice scribbled an account number. โ€œGo cash the check yourself and wire the money to this account.โ€ She glanced sideways at Elsie. โ€œHandle it quickly. Donโ€™t make me follow up.โ€

Elsieโ€™s eyes were red with anger. She nearly bit through her own lip.

Yunice slung her bag over her shoulder and left with Oscar.

There was nothing Elsie could do. What could she say when Yunice had married a man who was capable and fiercely protective of her?

โ€œWho is her husband, anyway?โ€ a woman asked, gossip lighting her eyes. โ€œDid she hook up withโ€ฆโ€

โ€œProbably,โ€ someone added. โ€œIf she married into a decent family, sheโ€™d be flaunting it already.โ€

โ€œCome on, Elsie, tell us. What does her husband do?โ€

Elsieโ€™s heart twisted with jealousy. These people were all shameless opportunists. If they knew Yuniceโ€™s husband was Wyatt, they would drop her in a heartbeat and rush to flatter Yunice.

She forced a sneer. โ€œJust some middleman in the jewelry business. Iโ€™m mainly worried about my sister. Heโ€™s not kind to her.โ€
