Chapter 228: You Are Quite Loyal

Yunice said, โ€œI did something this big, and you donโ€™t want to admit it?โ€

Wyatt appeared again in Yuniceโ€™s line of sight, his eyes teasing. โ€œSo you are actually quite loyal.โ€ He paused, waiting for Yunice to argue, but Yunice just looked at him with a clear and calm expression. She didnโ€™t seem like she wanted to argue at all.

His face darkened slightly, almost imperceptibly. Yunice was also waiting for him to say more. When he stayed quiet too long, she couldnโ€™t help but remind him. โ€œDonโ€™t you reward people who contribute?โ€

Wyattโ€™s tone cooled again as he turned and walked in another direction. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

Yunice couldnโ€™t hide her joy. โ€œThe beaded bracelet in your hand.โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

Yunice frowned and lay back down without a word. When Wyatt didnโ€™t hear anything, he turned around again. Yunice looked clearly unhappy. His gaze shifted slightly, then he gave in. โ€œI can give you something else. When youโ€™re better, just tell Jordan what you want.โ€

Yunice bit her lip, her eyes moved just a little, and she barely stopped her smile from rising. She hadnโ€™t been wrong. Wyatt really was giving in to her. No matter what feeling this came from, it was a good thing for Yunice. She felt that rushing to Rainier Arc Street had been totally worth it!

At least until Joe handed her a mirror and let her see herself. After that, she couldnโ€™t smile anymore.

Joe put the mirror down and said, โ€œYouโ€™re wrapped like a mummy.โ€ Then he sighed. โ€œYou canโ€™t move for the next few days; how are you even eating?โ€ There wasnโ€™t even a nurse helping out.

Yunice said, โ€œWyatt fed me.โ€

โ€œWhoa!โ€ Joe gave her a smug, knowing grin. โ€œI knew it. Mr. Cooper treats you differently. Heโ€™s only ever taken care of a few people.โ€ He personally cared for Madam Mary. Are there others?

Joe answered casually, โ€œHis mother too. When she was alive, he looked after her.โ€

โ€œI seeโ€ฆโ€ Yunice had hoped she could get some kind of clue.

Chapter 221: You Are Quite Loyal

Just then, a noise came from the door of the hospital room. An older womanโ€™s voice called, โ€œMs. Saunders, are you healing well?โ€

Yunice could turn her head a little now, and she saw Elianna pushing Mary in. Joe stood up with a smiling face. โ€œMadam Mary, what brings you here today?โ€

Mary ignored him and let Elianna push her right to Yuniceโ€™s bedside. Maryโ€™s eyes moved up and down, examining the bandages wrapped around Yunice. Her originally stern expression eased slightly.

Elianna rolled her eyes and muttered, โ€œYouโ€™re really acting hard just to win over Wyatt.โ€

Joe quickly followed with a laugh. โ€œMs. Elianna, come on. Accidents donโ€™t choose targets. You wouldnโ€™t dare act this out in a drama. Ms. Saundersโ€™s love for Mr. Cooper is something the universe can witness!โ€

Yunice pressed her lips together, feeling secondhand embarrassment from Joeโ€™s over-the-top performance. But Mary didnโ€™t make things hard for Yunice. She only stayed a little while, then left.

Joe walked her out. โ€œMadam Mary, since youโ€™re here, why not stay and talk with Ms. Saunders a bit longer?โ€

Mary turned back and gave him a cold glance. โ€œDonโ€™t think I donโ€™t know what you all are thinking. She shows up, and all of you are secretly thrilled.โ€ Maryโ€™s face was grim, weighed down with concern. Joe didnโ€™t say a word back. Mary lowered her eyes and took a long, deep breath, like she had no choice but to let Elianna push her away.

When Joe returned to the room, Yunice immediately asked, โ€œWhy does Madam Mary always have something against me? Does she think Iโ€™m not good enough for Wyatt?โ€

โ€œWell, problems between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law have been around forever. Grandmas are no different. Even if you gave Mr. Cooper a goddess, theyโ€™d still say sheโ€™s not grounded enough.โ€ Joe smiled. โ€œDonโ€™t let it get to you.โ€

Yunice kept staring at him, and Joe knew she didnโ€™t buy his answer. He added, "Anyone who gets close to Mr. Cooper has a motive. She's afraid you'll deceive him. But as long as Mr. Cooper is on your side, Madam Mary won't say anything."

Yunice believed himโ€”mostly, but not completely. The person Wyatt moved out from the small villa still weighed on Yuniceโ€™s mind. She was afraid this might all be part of a carefully planned trap.

Yunice lay in bed a while longer. No one came to bother her. The days passed in rare peace. Gill sent her a video of Gillโ€™s Deli & Bites. The business looked decent. Freya came to visit, but the bodyguards Wyatt posted outside turned her away. Yunice only found out after sheโ€™d left. The Saunders family stayed oddly quiet. Not one of them checked in on her.
