Chapter 194: Scent of Distrust

Yunice flinched instinctively and stepped back to distance herself from them. Taylor merely glanced at her coolly and said, โ€œRelax. Iโ€™m not here to slap you.โ€

Paul had taken a full-force slap to the face. For a second, he was stunned. Then he turned his head, rage flashing in his eyes. Taylor, however, remained completely unfazed. With arms crossed, she said coldly, โ€œAs long as youโ€™re with me, youโ€™d better cut the cheating crap. Otherwise, Iโ€™ve got plenty more slaps where that came from.โ€

โ€œYou wouldnโ€™t dare!โ€ he growled.

Taylor scoffed. โ€œIโ€™ve got the Kendall family behind me. What, you think Iโ€™m gonna put up with you like your last doormat did?โ€

She gave him a dismissive look. โ€œIf youโ€™ve got a problem with that, keep it to yourself.โ€

Yunice barely stifled a smileโ€”just a small twitch of her lips. But Paul caught it and immediately snapped, โ€œShe was the one seducing me.โ€

Taylor raised a brow. โ€œReally? In the gynecology department?โ€

She rolled her eyes. The sight of him was enough to make her sick. She turned and shot a glance at Yunice. โ€œThat perfumeโ€™s so strong itโ€™s choking. A man who spends all his brainpower on scheming against womenโ€”no wonder youโ€™re a failure.โ€

Yunice didnโ€™t even wear perfumeโ€”but now that Taylor pointed it out, she did smell something on herself. It was Paulโ€™s cologne.

Paulโ€™s face darkened. He thought heโ€™d hidden it well. Clearly, Taylor had seen right through him.

Taylor stormed off without another word. Paul followed, fuming. Once they were alone, she snapped, โ€œYouโ€™re a disgrace. Weโ€™re in the same damn boat now. Do me a favorโ€”try using what little brain you have on the business war ahead, and maybe Iโ€™ll think a little better of you.โ€

Paul glared. โ€œI donโ€™t need you to teach me.โ€

Taylor stopped, turned, and looked him dead in the eye. โ€œIf you keep screwing around, there wonโ€™t even be a Powell family left. Just wait till the weddingโ€”youโ€™ll see.โ€

Paul frowned. He didnโ€™t understand what she was hinting at. What did she know that he did?

Meanwhile, Yunice rushed toward the restroom desperate to get the lingering cologne off herโ€ฆ

And of courseโ€”because life had a sense of humorโ€”she ran smack intoโ€ฆ Paulโ€™s cologne.

Yuniceโ€™s face burned. Just as she strode ahead, about to explain, Wyatt turned away with a coldโ€ฆ

Yunice hurried to catch up. โ€œYouโ€™re madโ€ฆโ€

She tried to coax him. โ€œDonโ€™t be madโ€ฆโ€

Wyatt only walked faster. โ€œIf youโ€™re really mad you should just grab Panal and beat him upโ€”itโ€™s better than bottling it inโ€ฆโ€

Wyatt suddenly stopped. Tanice couldnโ€™t brake in time and bumped straight into his back. His nose nearly broke on impact.

Wyatt let out a cold laugh. โ€œBeat him up? So you can be heartbroken and poison me in revengeโ€ฆโ€

Yunice raised her hands in surrender. โ€œIf you smack him a few extra times, Iโ€™d be even more grateful.โ€

Wyatt went silent, giving her a long look. โ€œI mean it,โ€ she added. A readable flicker in his eyes. He gave a low scoff, lips curling in dry amusement, and resumed walkingโ€”without waiting for her.

He was seriously hard to please.

Yunice jogged after him. โ€œDo you think I still have feelings for him? That he sent me to get close to you? That Iโ€™m some undercover spy?โ€ She threw her arms out. โ€œThatโ€™s all in your head. Youโ€™re the one labeling me with tinted glassesโ€”โ€

Wyatt snapped. โ€œIf youโ€™re going to defend yourself, at least wash off the other guyโ€™s scent first!โ€

Yamane huffed. โ€œI was literally on my way to do thatโ€”you just showed up at the worst time.โ€

โ€œOh, so itโ€™s my fault now?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s my fault,โ€ she said instantly, without missing a beat. No use arguing with him. Better to humor himโ€ฆ

Chapter 194: Scent of Distrust

She couldnโ€™t be sure. Still, she couldnโ€™t help grumbling to herself. Just because youโ€™ve got long legs doesnโ€™t mean you have to walk like a racehorseโ€ฆ

Back home, Yunice took a long shower and changed into clean clothes. The only scent left on her was fresh soap. The moment she got into Wyattโ€™s car, the faint aroma of her shampoo and steam clung to the air.

Wyattโ€™s lashes flickered slightly. The air reminded him of early morning after a night together. He quickly shut down that line of thought, closed his laptop, and turned to her. โ€œCome to an event with me?โ€

Yunice blinked. โ€œHuh?โ€

Wyatt, for once, didnโ€™t hold back. โ€œYouโ€™ve heard about the land zoning plans in Northvale, right?โ€

Of course, she had. It wasnโ€™t exactly a secret. Rumor had it they were planning to build a major hospital there. Once it was complete, the entire economy of Northvale would take off.
