Chapter 171
As soon as the group chat notification sounded, the other two teams instantly felt a bad feeling. It was probably Maddox up to his usual antics, making them all feel like losers again. But despite their suspicions, they couldnโt resist pulling out their phones; curiosity always won. And sure enough, they saw the message: Phoebe was entering an amateur motorcycle race.
Lexie and her team were shocked. They never expected Phoebe to know how to ride motorcycles, let alone race.
Lexie: [Pheebs, is there anything you canโt do?!] James: [Seriously, Pheels, youโre amazing! You can do everything!] Jimmy: [Ms. Jenkins is a legend!] Phoebe: [I used to race back home. Since thereโs an event happening, I thought Iโd give it a shot.] Lexie: [I want to watch you race!] Poche: Come on over! If I win the prize money, Iโll treat you all to dinner! Lexie: (Pherbs, I love you! Weโll be there for sure! Iโve been jealous of Maddox and Quintus for too long. Today, Iโm clinging to Pheebs too!) James: [So weโre going to have an easy win again today? I canโt wait!] Jimmy: [So excited for this!]
The three of them had found part-time server jobs for the morning, so they had the afternoon free. Watching Phoebe race was no problem. Overjoyed, they immediately decided to go.
On the other side, another group of four was also reacting in various ways. Joshua was visibly shocked. He turned to Jamar. โPhoebe can ride motorcycles?โ
Jamar shook his head. โI had no idea.โ
At that moment, Reece finally looked away from the pictures of Phoebe in the chat. With a hint of pride, he said, โNot only can she ride, but her skills are on par with professional racers.โ His younger sister used to drag Phoebe to ride motorcycles all the time. She even convinced Phoebe to enter races. Back then, he had opposed it, thinking it was too dangerous. But now, he felt nostalgic. Back then, Phoebe had practically forced him to watch their races.
Hearing this, the Jenkins brothers and Sienna were once again stunned. Joshua and Jamar felt a pang of guilt. Phoebe had been back for over a year, yet they hadnโt even known about this part of her life. Sienna, on the other hand, felt nothing but jealousy and resentment. Phoebe had hidden so much from them. And worst of all, racing in a competition would boost her livestream audience, whether she won the prize money or not. She couldnโt stop it. All she could do was pray that Phoebe didnโt win. Better yet, she hoped Phoebe crashed during the race. It would be perfect if Phoebe scarred her face or broke her legs. Sienna sat there, secretly cursing Phoebe in her heart.
Then, Reece suggested, โWe should go watch Phoebe race this afternoon.โ The other three hadnโt expected him to say that. Sienna definitely didnโt want to go help boost Phoebeโs popularity. If they went, their livestream viewers would see Phoebe steal the spotlight. So, she put on a hesitant expression. โButโฆthey didnโt invite us. Wouldnโt it be rude to just show up?โ She subtly implied that Phoebe was too petty to invite them.
But Reece didnโt care. โWe donโt need an invitation. Weโll just go watch.โ He knew Phoebe would never invite them. But he wanted to see her race, regardless.
Sienna tried again, this time more tactfully. โButโฆwonโt they be unhappy if we go?โ
Reece shrugged. โWeโll just watch and leave. No need to bother them.โ
Sienna fumed inwardly. โWhy on earth would they go out of their way to do something so pointless?โ
Before she could protest further, Jamar said, โIโm really curious to see Phoebe race. I want to go.โ He had already missed out on so much of his little sisterโs life. Even if it was just as a spectator, he wanted to be there for her this time.
Joshua nodded. โYeah, letโs go.โ
Sienna went speechless. These three were going to drive her insane. Phoebe racing motorcycles wasnโt elegant or graceful at all. Sienna thought it was not exciting at all. She also thought these three must be out of their minds. Suppressing her anger, Sienna forced a smile. โBut we still have to play the piano and violin this afternoon.โ She was implying they shouldnโt go.
Reece shot her an unhappy glance. โThe race starts at two in the afternoon, and we donโt start work until five. We should have enough time to go back. If you donโt want to go, then weโll go without you.โ The money they earned at lunch was enough to cover a round-trip taxi ride.
Jamar agreed. โIf you donโt want to go, then the three of us will go.โ If Sienna didnโt want to go, she didnโt need to force herself. Otherwise, it would just be uncomfortable for everyone.
Joshua stayed silent, but it was clear he agreed. At that moment, the thorn in his heart regarding Sienna sank even deeper. He had thought about it all night. He realized that Siennaโs concern and care for him were too superficial. At first, Joshua made excuses for Sienna. Maybe she was just too tired yesterday to notice anything. But today, he had purposely mentioned that his throat hurt, and she hadnโt even asked what was wrong. She didnโt ask if he needed medicine or anything. All she cared about was making money and showing off. For the first time, he felt disappointed in her, and now that she was refusing to watch Phoebe race, he was no longer willing to blindly support her.
Sienna felt like she was on the verge of a breakdown, ready to explode on the spot. Her forced smile faded a little. โAre you guys really set on going?โ
Reece, Jamar, and Joshua all nodded in unison. โYes.โ
Sienna took a deep breath. โAlright then, letโs go watch; Iโm actually pretty curious to see Phoebe race.โ Since she couldnโt stop them from going, she might as well stir up some trouble while she was there. The three of them had no objections and agreed to take a taxi there after lunch.
After sitting for a while, Sienna excused herself to the bathroom. Inside, she pretended to be in a hurry and borrowed a phone from a female server who was also in the restroom.
Chapter 171
She then made a call, revealing Phoebeโs race time and location to the person on the other end. After hanging up, her frustration and anger were completely gone. Instead, she started looking forward to watching Phoebe race. When she returned, her mood seemed to have significantly improved. Reece, Jamar, and Joshua all found it strange.
Jamar thought for a moment and then sent a message in the group chat: [Our group happens to be free this afternoon, so weโll come join the fun too.] For some reason, Jamar couldnโt help but feel a little hopeful. He wondered if Phoebe would acknowledge their message because of the live broadcast or his reputation. He didnโt dare to expect her to invite them for dinner. Even a simple reply would be enough.
On the other side, in the resting area of the racing arena, Phoebe suddenly had a strange feeling. Someone was cursing her. Because she had a strong life force, she could vaguely sense it. But it was just a regular curse, amplified by someoneโs emotions, without any metaphysical power behind it. She didnโt need to think too hard to guess. It was most likely Sienna.
Just then, the group chat notification sounded. She saw Jamarโs message, saying they were coming to watch her race. Phoebe didnโt feel much about it. She just found them incredibly odd to watch her race. She figured maybe it was because of the livestream. She had a bad relationship with all four of them, but they were eager to watch her race. If that were the case, Sienna should have been against it and tried to stop them. But now that all four of them were coming, it meant the other three were probably just being foolish. As for Sienna, who had been actively cursing her, Phoebe couldnโt help but be more cautious.
