Chapter 71
Freyaโs eyes turned cold with wrath, her voice brimming with certainty. Seeing Freya so confident, Eloiseโs face soured even more. โCindy, Mae, please letโs get out of here.โ
โHold on,โ Freya said with an icy tone, looking at them squarely. โDonโt remember giving you permission to leave.โ
Fever Boot is willing to let this go. What more do you want?
Freya glanced at the scattered food remains on the floor, turned to them, and said, โHave you heard of โwaste not, want notโ? Is this how your parents taught you to squander food?โ
Mae leaned forward, her voice sarcastic. โYou think weโre clueless, huh? The Dawson family is on its last legs. Without tying the knot with the Sutton family, youโre nothing but a Ms. Dawson surviving solely on Mr. Suttonโs charity. And here you are, putting on airs?โ
Mae scanned the crowd deliberately and added, โIs the Dawson family so broke that they canโt even afford a meal? Ms. Dawson, Iโve tales of you groveling to Mr. Sutton, shining his shoes, and waiting on Audrey hand and foot like a maid. Youโve secured your position as the future Mrs. Sutton because of Audreyโs favor.โ
With a provocative glance at Freya, Mae continued, โIf you grovel before us as well, this mealโs on us.โ
Everyone knows our school cafeteria charges an arm and a leg. And look, Ms. Dawsonโs plate seems to be missing any meat. Must be hard times, huh?
Previously put in her place by Freya, Cindy suddenly said, looking smugly at Freya as if sheโd caught her in a trap.
Cindy yelled to the crowd, โCome one, come all, and witness Ms. Dawson begging for a meal!โ Instantly, the cafeteria buzzed with excitement, everyone eager to see what was happening. Eloise made a symbolic attempt to pull Cindy and Mae back, saying, โCindy, Mae, letโs notโฆโ
Cindy cut her off. โEloise, stay out of this! Freya was shameless. We were ready to let her off, but she doesnโt know when to quit!โ Freya watched the scene unfold with a slight smile.
Taken aback by Freyaโs demeanor, Mae glared at her. โWhat are you smiling at?โ
Freyaโs smile didnโt wane. โIโm amused at how clueless you are.โ
Mae frowned. โWhat do you mean?โ
โI think sheโs lost it,โ Cindy said. โOtherwise, why would she dare offend Mr. Sutton? Here she is, still talking big.โ
Freya replied, โYou rushed to spill this plate without asking whose it was.โ
Cindy scoffed, โThis kind of simple meal? Only the nearly bankrupt Dawson family would eat this. Whose elseโs could it be but yours!โ
Freya smirked, โThis meal was for Mr. Beckett.โ
At Freyaโs words, Eloise and Mae turned pale. Only Cindy seemed confused and dismissive as she said, โMr. Beckett? Never heard of him!โ
โItโs me.โ A calm, composed voice cut through the crowd as everyone stepped aside to reveal Ronan.
Who didnโt know Ronan was Summit Universityโs esteemed professor and one of its biggest benefactors? Ronanโs annual donations to the school were in the millions. Thanks to his passion for teaching, the university frequently invited Ronan for lectures. Ronan was an influential figure in school and the CEO of the Beckett Group outside school. Even their fathers would have to address Ronan as Mr. Beckett respectfully.
Upon spotting Ronan, Cindyโs face went pale. โMrโฆ Mr. Beckettโฆ
