Chapter 20

โ€œMs. Dawson, these are just a bunch of trivial documents. I doubt theyโ€™ll pique your interest. Why donโ€™t you head to the lounge and relax for a bit?โ€ Galen offered with a strained smile. The underlying message was clear: he preferred Freya steer clear of company matters.

Unfazed, Freya reached out her hand, demanding, โ€œLet me have a look.โ€

โ€œThisโ€ฆโ€

Freya snapped, โ€œGalen, are you under the impression that youโ€™re calling the shots in the Dawson Group now?โ€

Faced with Freyaโ€™s assertiveness, Galen hurriedly replied, โ€œHow could I ever think that, Ms. Dawson? Of course, youโ€™re entitled to see anything you wish. Itโ€™s just that I was worried you might find it confusingโ€ฆโ€

Freya interrupted, โ€œNevermind the lounge. Letโ€™s head to the CEOโ€™s office. And bring me all the documents that need signing.โ€

โ€œMs. Dawsonโ€ฆโ€

Freya cut Galen off, her gaze shifting to Alison. โ€œYouโ€™re Alison, right? Fetch those for me, please. Galen, would you be so kind as to show me to the office?โ€

โ€œY-Yes, of course.โ€ Galen agreed verbally, but he was sweating bullets on the inside. He wondered, โ€˜What in the world is Ms. Dawson doing here? If she unearthed any discrepancies in the accounts, I would be doomed!โ€™

With a heavy heart, Galen led Freya to the CEOโ€™s office, previously her fatherโ€™s workspace, remembered for its modest and sophisticated decor. However, under Johannaโ€™s direction, the office had become a caricature of its former self. She saw high-end gaming PCs, expensive cigars, and a lavish wine cabinet. There was even a display case for rare sneakers. Since Johanna and Leland began managing the company, even the office had lost its usual dignity!

Chapter 21

โ€œMs. Dawson, hereโ€™s the thing. Mrs. Dawson and Mr. Dawson arenโ€™t here yet. Perhaps when Mrs. Dawsonโ€ฆโ€

Freya cut him off again. โ€œGalen, the right to lead the Dawson Group is mine. Johanna said she wanted to run the company, so I let her take over for some time. But from what I see, the management is less than stellar.โ€

Galen felt a chill run down his spine at her words. โ€˜What did she mean by that?โ€™

Meanwhile, Alison placed the recent documents requiring Freyaโ€™s signature on the desk. Galenโ€™s anxiety peaked as the documents on top were the companyโ€™s latest financial statements. A cold sweat broke out over him. If Freya discovered the millions he and Johanna had siphoned from the company, heโ€™d be behind bars in no time!

Noticing Galenโ€™s unease, Freya had a sly smile on her lips. She casually picked up a financial statement, only to be abruptly stopped by Galen. โ€œMs. Dawson!โ€

โ€œHm?โ€ Freya looked up, feigning confusion. โ€œIs there something you forgot to mention, Galen?โ€

โ€œIโ€“I was just worried you might not understand the financial details, so I thought Iโ€™d explain them.โ€ Galen looked visibly nervous, his voice trembling as he spoke.

On the other hand, Alison couldnโ€™t help but smirk at the situation. Galen and Johannaโ€™s corrupt dealings were an open secret within the company. However, no one dared to speak up out of respect for Johannaโ€™s status as Mrs. Dawson. Alison had taken a risk in delivering these documents to Freya, hoping she was there to take control of the Dawson Group. It was high time someone rooted out the parasites like Galen from the company.

โ€œNo need. Iโ€™ll have a quick look,โ€ Freya said, dismissing his offer.
