James heard the siren. He knew the police were coming, but he didn't want anyone to learn about the day's events. Thea was an ordinary woman who had endured enough abuse. He didn't want police involvement; the news would spread, causing city-wide chaos. Although Thea was unharmed, the ensuing rumors would be devastating. She'd been the target of gossip for too long, and he wouldn't let this cause her further trouble.
He called the Blithe King. After the call, he returned to the office, sat on the sofa, and waited for a reply. Meanwhile, dozens of sweating security guards, wielding electric batons, gathered at the door, afraid to enter. Inside, Hank's lifeless body lay in a pool of blood.
The Blithe King, in a meeting when James called, knew of James's temperament and feared his recklessness. He immediately adjourned the meeting and ordered, "Call the police. Tell them to ignore Ella Corporation; the military will handle it. Prepare my car. I'm going to Ella Corporation."
It was past office hours, yet many employees were still working overtime. On the first floor, over a dozen security guards lay injured, their limbs broken by extreme force—not minor fractures. They groaned in pain; some had passed out from blood loss.
The police arrived, secured the scene, and dispatched ambulances. A fully armed specialized police unit, upon seeing the carnage, became highly vigilant and began their investigation. After learning the perpetrator was still inside, they began strategizing. Suddenly, the captain received a call from superiors ordering him not to intervene; the military was taking over.
Military vehicles soon appeared outside Ella Corporation. Dozens of jeeps arrived, disgorging thousands of armed soldiers. They immediately dispersed onlookers and forced the police to leave.
James waited about ten minutes before the military arrived, forcibly detaining the security guards. A burly middle-aged man entered the office, glancing at Hank's body then at James, who sat on the sofa with Thea in his arms. Approaching them, he reprimanded, "James, you're in Cansington, not the Southern Plains. How could you be so ruthless?"
James stood, carrying Thea. "I'll leave through the back door. Arrange a car. I don't want word of this spreading, so handle the witnesses." He turned and left.
The Blithe King was frustrated. He was the dignified commander of the Western border, recently promoted to commander-in-chief of the five armies, yet James was dictating his actions. He truly hoped James wouldn't cause more trouble.
"Hold on…"
James, carrying Thea, turned. He saw the Blithe King, in his five-star military uniform. "What? Anything else?" he said reluctantly.
"Please, no more trouble. This falls under my jurisdiction. Don't make this difficult for me. I'm begging you."
"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth!"
James left. James feared no one and despised the law, infuriating the Blithe King, who was helpless. He lacked the authority to arrest James, even for a heinous crime, without an order from the highest commander. He took a deep breath. "Send a car to the back door. Take him back."
"Understood."
