Chapter 897: Rather Disgraceful
Upon hearing her reply, Lucian snorted. "Was it not you who arranged for Archie and Benny to come over?"
Hah! She'd arranged for the boys to placate Essie while she spent time with Jack! The realization sent a chill through him. "Do you find Essie all too easy to fool, Ms. Jarvis?"
Roxanne found him unreasonable. "I can't help it if you insist on thinking so, Mr. Farwell." She struggled, hoping to reach Archie and Benny upstairs. Further argument seemed futile; she wanted to see Estella.
Sensing her impatience, Lucian's rage intensified. "It was a matter related to Herbscape Group, wasn't it?"
Roxanne stilled, shocked. Jack and Colby had hinted that Lucian was behind Herbscape Group's troubles. She'd harbored suspicions but lacked evidence. Lucian's tone, however, shifted the scales. He knew about Herbscape Group's problems.
Lucian confirmed her conjecture expressionlessly. "If so, I advise you to stop wasting your time and energy. Sooner or later, Herbscape Group will belong to Farwell Group." His eyes glinted dangerously.
Roxanne's struggles ceased. Self-deprecation filled her eyes. Why hadn't she doubted him, given Jack and Colby's warnings? Farwell Group was the only entity with the motive and ability to act in Horington.
"As expected, Mr. Farwell. Your methods are astounding." Her gaze dimmed, her lips curving in a self-deprecating smile.
Lucian frowned. "Say it bluntly if you find my methods despicable, Ms. Jarvis." To him, business was war. A winning method was a good one. He also wanted to teach Jack a lesson and warn him away from his woman; he intended to make her choose between her work and her children.
Roxanne met his gaze. "I merely want to know one thingโwhy are you doing this?"
Lucian derisively arched a brow. "As Herbscape Group breached their contract with Farwell Group, Farwell Group naturally had to teach it a lesson!"
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief. Jack's words had worried her, but Lucian's explanation aligned with her suspicions.
"Why do you think I'm doing this, Ms. Jarvis?" Lucian's voice echoed.
Roxanne's expression froze, then she replied calmly, "I find such a method rather disgraceful for Farwell Group." She suppressed her guilt and turned away.
Lucian scrutinized her face, but she avoided his gaze.
