Chapter 697: Are You Sure?

Madilyn felt touched by Estellaโ€™s adorable voice. She still remembered the girl's refusal to speak the last time they met; many assumed she was mute. Madilyn couldn't believe Estella's transformation in such a short time. Not only did she speak, but she possessed an angelic voice and a sweet smile. Madilyn patted Estella's head. "There's a good girl!"

As Madilyn stood, Estella's gaze fell on the food on the dining table, sparking her curiosity. Having been raised in a wealthy household with professional cooks and her grandmother preparing all her meals, Estella was unfamiliar with takeout or fast food, and didn't understand Benny and Archie's excitement. Madilyn, having slept late until Roxanne's call, was hungry, having skipped breakfast. She opened the food packaging and gave each child a fried chicken drumstick.

Unsure what to do, Estella stared blankly. Madilyn, realizing Estella likely had never encountered fried chicken before, fetched disposable gloves, carefully placed them on Estella's tiny hands, and showed her how to hold the drumstick. Estella offered a shy smile. "Thanks."

Madilyn's heart melted. Estella's cuteness distracted her from eating until the girl finished her drumstick. Madilyn then began to eat her own. She'd just taken a bite when her phone rang.

She tensed, reluctantly answering. It was the director, calling her back to work. Madilyn rolled her eyes, hung up, and quickly ate more chicken. She said goodbye to the children and left.

The children gathered around the table to finish the food. Meanwhile, Roxanne remained unaware of the children's home life, trusting Madilyn to ensure they were fed.

Over their meal, as they discussed medicine, Jack asked, "I realized something while watching you prepare Jamie's prescription. You're not very good at medicine, are you?"

Roxanne chuckled awkwardly. "That's true. I majored in acupuncture; medication isn't my forte. My skills are mediocre at best. Thank goodness you were there."

Jack nodded. "We all have our strengths. Your acupuncture skills are incredible; they're jaw-dropping. As for medicationโ€ฆ I have some medical journals and books I could lend you, if you'd like."

Roxanne was shocked. "A-Are you sure?" She'd partly chosen to work with the Damaris family for their ancient medical texts. Was he really offering them to her?

Jack arched an eyebrow. "Why not? You're a partner; your medical improvements benefit us all."
