Chapter 310: Estella's Future Mother
A ruthless look crossed Aubree's face as she ended the call. She then made another call, speaking briefly to the recipient.
That day was a weekend. Aubree drove to the Farwell residence early in the morning.
Sonya was eating breakfast when Aubree arrived. Sonya smiled. "You're early. Have you had breakfast? Would you like to sit and eat something?"
Aubree shook her head. "No, thank you. I'm here to pick you up."
Sonya didn't insist. As she ate, she chatted with Aubree.
After Sonya finished breakfast, Aubree took her to the shopping district.
"Mrs. Farwell, how has Essie been?" Aubree asked casually. "I've been worried about her, but haven't been able to see her since that day." Sonya's expression turned serious at the mention of Estella. "That incident frightened Essie. Her condition has been unstable recently. I don't know what to do." Estella's autism had been a long-standing issue. Her psychiatrist believed it wasn't congenital, therefore a cure was possibleโdepending on Estella's cooperation with treatment. [Remove the intrusive website promotion]
However, Estella's condition hadn't improved. This was clearly because she refused to cooperate.
Her condition only improved when Roxanne appeared.
Sonya believed Estella's resistance stemmed from a lack of maternal love.
Therefore, partly to help Estella, Sonya had been urging Lucian to marry Aubree quickly. This would provide Estella with a mother figure.
Estella's condition had briefly improved, but regressed after the incident.
Furthermore, Sonya didn't want Estella to become close to Roxanne.
After considering everything, she felt more comfortable with her son marrying Aubree.
With that in mind, Sonya glanced at Aubree with relief.
Aubree adopted a self-blaming expression. "It's all my fault. Essie was getting better. No wonder Lucian doesn't want to be with me. I'm too careless with children."
Aubree concisely blamed herself for the incident, attributing the loss of Estella's progress to her own carelessness.
She watched Sonya's reaction from the corner of her eye.
Seeing Aubree still blaming herself days later, Sonya frowned. "You didn't do anything wrong. How could Lucian be with Roxanne? You acted in their best interests, but Essie is stubborn. Technically, we spoiled her."
Seeing Sonya wasn't blaming her, Aubree briefly smirked before regaining her composure. She replied kindly, "Girls should be spoiled. Essie is so cute and sweet. If I had a daughter like her, I'd spoil her too."
Sonya felt reassured that Aubree would care for Estella. "Don't worry. To me, you're Essie's future mother. I'll talk to Lucian." Aubree smiled, remaining silent.
She wasn't optimistic that Sonya could convince Lucian.
It was highly unlikely Lucian would listen to his mother.
Aubree knew she would have to rely on herself to achieve her goal.
