Chapter 247: Leaving the Country After Divorce
After returning from Bellridge, Lucian went straight to the Farwell Group. He didn't finish his piled-up work until evening.
Back at the manor, he found Estella in the living room, intently drawing at the table.
She put down her crayon and took short strides toward him when she saw him.
Lucian leaned down and patted her head. "Do you miss Daddy?"
She nodded. He smiled.
He then stood and called Catalina to inquire about Estella's needs over the past two days. He was relieved to hear she had been good.
After greeting Lucian, Estella returned to her drawing. He looked over her shoulder. Her drawing depicted five figures: two boys held by a long-haired woman in a dress, and a little girl held by a tall man in a black shirt.
Lucian instantly recognized the scene. Remembering the past two days with Roxanne, his expression darkened. Her desire to leave him was evident, though she always showed a soft spot for Estella.
Noticing she had finished her drawing, he retrieved two figurines from his study and placed them before her. These were gifts he had bought along with Lego sets for Archie and Benny.
"I bought gifts for Archie and Benny on my trip," he said softly. "Please help Daddy give them to the boys tomorrow, okay? And thank them for taking care of you at kindergarten."
Her eyes sparkled at the mention of presents, and she nodded excitedly.
The next day, Roxanne took the children to school early to avoid Lucian. He knew she would ignore him if he tried to intercept them at the kindergarten gate, so he dropped Estella off at the usual time.
Estella looked disappointed not to see Roxanne, but brightened when she saw the figurines.
She entered the classroom and found Archie and Benny already seated. "Good morning, Archie and Benny," she beamed. Both boys, as instructed by their mother, always looked after Estella. They waved and smiled back.
Tiptoeing, she placed the boxes on their desks, watching expectantly.
"What is this?" They recognized the limited-edition figurines but were unsure of her actions.
Her eyes crinkled with smiles. "They're from Daddy!"
Upon learning the sender, they frowned. They liked the gifts but hesitated. Estella had lived with them for a while and knew how much they would appreciate them. The moment seemed to stretch on forever.
She nudged them. "You like these, don't you?" They tried to refuse, but the figurines were too tempting. Finally, they relented. "They're too expensive. Mommy won't let us take them."
Estella hadn't anticipated their rejection, especially their mention of their mother. She pouted, lowered her eyes, and stood pitifully before them, on the verge of tears.
Seeing this, they exchanged a look. "Since they're from Essie, we'll take them. Please thank Uncle Lucian for us."
Estella smiled again.
