Chapter 2050: No Way to Arrest Her
Grant confessed he initially intended to end his life. Since acquiring sleeping pills proved difficult, he purchased a drug that accelerated blood clotting. Despite knowing the pain it would inflictโa painful death, he was in the terminal stages of his cancer and expected to die by day's end. He reasoned that the pain would at least alleviate some of his inner torment.
โSo, you were trying to kill yourself?โ Lucian asked, slightly surprised. Winnie's arrest would be jeopardized if that were the case.
Grant stopped speaking and wept uncontrollably. Roxanne, witnessing his distress, gradually calmed, her gaze hardening.
โWhat gives you the right to cry, Grant? What right do you have to die? Winnie did this; you should have dragged her down with you. You're still not over her, aren't you? You still have two children with her.โ
A wave of regret washed over her. She wished she'd ignored her father and simply let him die.
โIโm so sorry, Roxanne!โ Grant began, but Roxanne cut him off. She wanted only to find Winnie.
I'll never let that btch off!* she thought.
Lucian, seeing his wifeโs fury, quickly intervened, taking the wheel himself and heading to the police station to check on the investigation. However, just as they arrived, the investigating officer called.
โMr. Farwell, tests revealed an excessive amount of coagulant in Mr. Jarvisโs system, causing blood clots. It suggests poisoning or an overdose. Mr. Jarvis has awakened and we requested his cooperation, but he insists he took the drugs himself. Since he was attempting suicide, the case isโฆโ
Lucian glanced at Roxanne, hoping she hadnโt overheard. What's going on with Grant? He pleads for forgiveness, then breaks down, yet testifies in Winnieโs defense to prevent her arrest. Is he schizophrenic? He worried about Roxanne's reaction.
Lucian decided against telling Roxanne, saying to the officer, โWeโll be there shortly. Thereโs something I need your help with.โ
โNo problem. Iโll wait for you.โ The officer hung up.
As Lucian put away his phone, Roxanne abruptly asked, โIs there no way to arrest her?โ A bitter smile touched her lips.
He nodded. โItโs fine. Even if we canโt arrest her, we can still find her.โ
After Lucian spoke with the officer, the latterโs understanding was evident; he provided Winnieโs address. The couple immediately drove to a suburban mansion. Lucian, mindful of his pregnant wifeโs safety, dispatched Cayden to send bodyguards.
They arrived after ten oโclock. Roxanne gritted her teeth, enraged by the mansionโs size.
How can Winnie live so comfortably after her unconscionable actions? Doesnโt she have nightmares?
The seven or eight bodyguards arrived. The gate security initially attempted to stop them, but quickly relented. Lucian continued comforting Roxanne, urging her to remain calm and focus on eliciting the truth from Winnie while he recorded their conversation.
