Chapter 2020: Could Not Afford to Offend

“How dare you!” Norton was on the verge of losing his composure. However, his cunning nature prevailed. Seeing Jonathan’s calm demeanor, he suppressed his anger.

Jonathan, impatient with pleasantries, stated bluntly, “Mr. Sheffield, I am Jonathan Queen of the Queen family in Horington, Madilyn’s boyfriend. She will marry no one else.”

Madilyn’s head snapped up; she stared. He had been shy earlier, but now radiated an air of authority.

Jonathan met her gaze, his eyes softening with tenderness.

Mildred gasped. “The Queen family?” She glanced at her husband.

Norton’s brow furrowed, though his initial anger had subsided considerably. He knew the Queen family—Horington’s key ally to the Farwells, possessing hundreds of billions in assets and influence across various industries. He never imagined Madilyn would have such a boyfriend. His power dwarfed even the Cheevers. No wonder his earlier demeanor.

In the past, he would have immediately adapted his attitude. But pride held him back.

“Perhaps a misunderstanding, Mr. Queen,” he said finally, his voice gentle.

Mildred saw the helplessness in her husband's eyes and his change of tone, and turmoil raged within her. The Queen family surpassed even the Cheevers? How could Lorraine’s daughter be so fortunate? Envy burned, but she remained silent.

“Regardless of any misunderstanding, Mr. Sheffield, I’m here to collect Ms. Xander. We will discuss other matters later,” Jonathan said, his own aura slowly calming.

Norton and Mildred finally understood. The Queen family, let alone the even more powerful Farwells, were not to be offended.

“Don’t worry, Madilyn. Your mother is fine. I’ll call her down,” Norton conceded, nodding.

He turned and entered the mansion, leaving Mildred speechless. Jonathan smiled reassuringly at Madilyn.

“Thank you, Jonathan!” Madilyn exclaimed. She hadn’t expected him to secure her mother’s release so swiftly and decisively. His Rolls-Royce and bodyguards suggested a plan involving both negotiation and force.

Shortly after, Lorraine appeared. Seeing her daughter and Jonathan, she rushed to them, glancing at Norton and Mildred with hostility. “Jonathan, Maddy, did they hurt you?”

Norton and Mildred stood grim-faced, watching helplessly. Allowing Lorraine to leave shattered their hopes of a Cheever alliance.

Jonathan shook his head. “Were you harmed, Ms. Xander?” he asked Lorraine.

Madilyn hugged her mother, relieved to find her unharmed. “Mom, get in the car. We’ll talk on the way.” She helped Lorraine into the Rolls-Royce.

Jonathan turned to Norton. “Mr. Sheffield, should you visit Horington, please visit the Queen residence. You’ll be most welcome.”
