Chapter 2016: Unworthy To Be My Father
โNorton, Iโm back! If you have any conscience left, send my mother to the Kaiser Hotel. I donโt want anything to do with the Sheffield family!โ
After lunch with Jonathan, they prepared to go to the Sheffield residence. Before leaving, Madilyn called Norton, delivering a final warning.
However, Norton calmly refused. โMadilyn, everything is negotiable if you return home. I have my problems too. I hope you understand.โ
Hearing him call himself her father, Madilynโs temper flared. โNorton Sheffield, be clear. Someone like you is unworthy of being my father, so donโt pretend otherwise.โ
โMadilyn, my decision isnโt meant to harm you.โ
โFine. Since you wonโt send my mother back, Iโll meet you at the Sheffield residence. I donโt believe you can do anything to me in broad daylight!โ
Madilyn ended the call. She and Jonathan immediately departed in a Rolls-Royce, provided by the hotel, heading to the Sheffield residence. Four or five Mercedes-Benz vehicles, carrying bodyguards, trailed behind.
Meanwhile, at the Sheffield residence, Norton called Jensen. โMr. Cheever, my daughter has returned. If Mr. Wilmer is free, he can come. Itโs a good opportunity for them to meet.โ
โOkay. Ms. Madilyn returned quickly. Youโre serious about this marriage, Mr. Sheffield.โ
Jensen agreed and sent his son, Wilmer.
โSee? I told you bringing Lorraine back forcefully was right. Madilyn would follow. Even if she resists now, she might change her mind when she sees how handsome Mr. Wilmer is,โ Mildred boasted.
โThat would be perfect,โ Norton agreed, acknowledging the possibility. His eldest daughter, Stella, had initially resisted her arranged marriage, but had quickly developed feelings for her husband.
Norton believed feelings were secondary; a suitable match benefited both parties.
โI should talk to Lorraine. We can cooperate, even without agreement. The Cheever collaboration is crucial, regardless of Madilyn and Wilmer.โ
Though confident, Norton felt unprepared.
โFine. I canโt be bothered with Lorraine; you talk to her. I hope it doesnโt rekindle your relationship,โ Mildred scoffed.
Ignoring her, he went upstairs and knocked. โLorraine, may I come in? Madilyn will be here soon.โ
Inside, Lorraine worried about Madilynโs return. She opened the door, grimacing. โNorton, however you treat me, Madilyn is still your daughter. Donโt use tactics against her!โ
โI understand, Lorraine. We need to talk. I hope youโll help me.โ
Norton favored a gentle approach, usually effective with Lorraine. This time, however, she remained unmoved, her impatience evident.
