Chapter 1907: Be Friends With Madilyn
James agreed to Lucian's proposal, becoming CEO of Flora Verba Group and Roxanne's apprentice, steadily ascending the ladder of success. It was a win-win, a double victory. Lucian and Roxanne exchanged knowing smiles; the matter was settled.
That afternoon, after lunch, James sought out Jonathan, arranging a visit to Elektra upon Jonathan's return from vacation. At the detention center, Elektra was surprised by their visit. After catching up, James inquired about her reluctance to pursue a reduced sentence, perhaps a suspended one allowing her to remain in Horington, reporting to the police occasionally.
Elektra smiled, shaking her head. "Thank you for coming. I admit I was foolish. I didn't appreciate my friends, family, and career."
Jonathan chimed in, "I understand. I once craved confinement, a refuge from destructive thoughts. But I escaped the darkness, finding healthier coping mechanisms."
Elektra chuckled, "Your thoughts still weigh on you. Consider meโa simple life, a less demanding job... passion is key, of course!"
James knew of Jonathan's suppressed emotions, his past denial of mental illness. Many adults struggle psychologically, though few admit it.
Their half-hour visit ended with Elektra's announcement of her impending release in three months.
Leaving the detention center, James noted Jonathan's relaxed demeanor. "When's the Ms. Xander introduction? How's it progressing?" he teased.
Jonathan panicked, "M-Madilyn and I are just friends."
"Is that so? Fine. I want to be friends with Madilyn, too. What do you think?"
Jonathan hesitated, a possessive anxiety apparent. "No problem. I'll introduce you when she's free. Do you have a girlfriend?"
James chuckled, instead testing Jonathan: "What's your take on Flora Verba Group's future?"
"Undoubtedly, they'll become the country's leading cosmeceutical company. Their market share will grow, impacting and eventually replacing foreign brands. Elektra's word-of-mouth marketing is brilliantly effective. The company excels at commercialization, but the Roxanne-led team's R&D capabilities are truly unparalleled."
James found it amusing. Jonathan's professional demeanor in business contrasted sharply with his awkwardness in matters of the heart.
