Chapter 1858: Most Disgusting Man in This World

Roxanne studied the situation a little longer before Lucian called. She went to him and explained everything.

“Madam Xander is critical; I may need to stay tonight,” Roxanne said seriously. “I need to identify the problem and find a solution to save her.”

“Okay. Let me know if you need anything. Don't worry about the kids; I'll care for them. Take care of yourself,” Lucian replied, his unwavering support a source of warmth for Roxanne. Reinvigorated, she returned to the office.

Madilyn had stopped reviewing the papers, staring blankly at a photo of herself and Lorraine. Before Roxanne could speak, Madilyn began to cry.

“Roxanne, I’m so useless! I can’t save my mom! I’m terrible!” she wailed, tears streaming down her face.

Roxanne, unable to find the right words, hugged Madilyn tightly, her own eyes misty.

“Roxanne, my mother suffered so much. That scoundrel abandoned us for over twenty years, giving only money but never visiting. I don’t understand why she still waits for him. He’ll never change! He’s the most disgusting man in the world,” Madilyn sobbed, her grief spilling out.

Madilyn explained that she grew up in a single-parent household. Lorraine, when younger, had fallen in love with the heir of an influential family, a man who promised marriage. However, he'd been disadvantaged in a family inheritance struggle, forcing a marriage of convenience to secure his position.

“My mother was already pregnant with me. She couldn’t abort me, so she shouldered everything and raised me. All these years, she wouldn’t let me visit, fearing that family would target me. To protect me, she always kept me away. That’s why I’m mostly in Horington and rarely go home. Roxanne, my mother has endured so much. When I saw you and Lucian finally together, I was so emotional. Sadly, my mother isn’t as fortunate.”

Hearing this long-held secret, Roxanne’s face crumpled with a mix of emotions. As Madilyn’s weeping subsided, Roxanne wiped away her tears.

Composing herself, Roxanne said firmly, “Madilyn, remember who we are. Now isn’t the time for sadness. We still have a chance. Trust me!”

Madilyn nodded vigorously.

“Contact every surgeon in the hospital and tell them to work overtime. I also need another CT scan of Madam Xander, but this time have her lie on her stomach. I need to examine that mark on the back of her heart. This could be our chance!”

Madilyn immediately began working on Roxanne's instructions. Roxanne, too, started her preparations, calling Lucian to retrieve the Cerulean Needle Technique from his study and have Cayden deliver it to the hospital.
