Chapter 1782: Good News Only
Lucian soon arrived at the kindergarten to collect the children. On the drive home, Estella excitedly recounted her grandparents' visit. Lucian immediately grew cautious, asking Archie and Benny, "Did your grandma do anything bad to you? Did she scold you?"
Archie and Benny exchanged glances, shaking their heads. Instead, they spoke of their grandfather's affection and their shared fondness for him.
"Daddy, Grandma still won't acknowledge Archie and Benny," Estella worriedly revealed.
Lucian stopped the car, beckoning the boys closer. They anticipated a reprimand for their perceived dishonesty. Instead, Lucian gently patted their heads, reassuring them. "Don't worry. I'll make your grandma apologize. Don't take anything she said to heart, okay?"
Even at their young age, they had learned to share only good news. Feeling their father's comforting touch, the boys smiled and nodded.
Upon arriving home, Lucian informed Roxanne of his parents' visit. Roxanne, immediately concerned, questioned Archie and Benny. The thought of Sonya insulting her children filled her with anxiety.
Fortunately, thanks to their father's reassurance, the boys weren't troubled by their grandmother's brusqueness, understanding it stemmed from a misunderstanding. Roxanne embraced them, prompting Estella's playful envy. Archie and Benny readily stepped aside to allow their sister a turn.
Later, while Roxanne prepared dinner, Lucian embraced her from behind, whispering, "Roxanne, trust me, I won't let the kids feel wronged again." She nodded, confident in her husband's word.
Within ten days, the Damaris Group and family crumbled. Those claiming distant kinship quickly deserted, seizing what assets they could. Even with swift action, many assets were frozen. Jack's assistant, Kevin, was imprisoned for illegal activities, and Hector faced repeated police summons for his cooperation with the investigation. Jack's fate intertwined with many others.
Days later, a nurse helped a frail, IV-laden Hector into a law firm. His exhaustion was palpable. After several attempts, he finally met with renowned lawyer Allen Caldwell to inquire about Jack's potential charges.
Allen, initially curt due to the Damaris family's downfall and past rejection of his services, softened upon seeing Hector. He recognized the man's years of service in the medical field and acknowledged his undeserved culpability for his grandson's actions.
