Sonya's expression hardened. "That's not what I meant. I didn't say Roxanne's life is unimportant. I'm simply curious if you've considered the consequences. Even Elektra's parents will believe it, affecting Elektra's reputation. Shouldn't that be a factor?"

Lucian hesitated, then softened his tone. "I did consider that. You can ask Elektra; I only proceeded with her consent."

Sonya raised an eyebrow. "Of course she'd agree. Elektra's always been kind to you, accommodating your every whim. She's simply kind-hearted."

Lucian was speechless, sensing his mother's brewing displeasure.

"Am I wrong?" Sonya pressed. "Even with Elektra's agreement, this shouldn't be taken lightly. Did you even speak to the Lanes?"

"You're right, Mom. I was negligent. I'll visit the Lane residence," Lucian conceded gently.

Sonya, though hearing his conciliatory tone, continued her remonstrance. "I spent considerable time discussing the wedding arrangements with Richard Lane. This is embarrassing!"

Lucian felt a pang of guilt. He sensed his mother's eagerness to replace Roxanne. Still, he yielded. "Mom, I acted rashly. I'm sorry. Why don't you arrange a meeting with Mr. Lane? I'll apologize in person."

Sonya was surprised by his amenable response. Their usual confrontations were replaced by a milder approach. She was momentarily speechless, her frustration unspoken. I can't believe how tenaciously Roxanne clings to life!

"Very well. But Lucian, are you really not considering Elektra? She's gentle, kind, and has a valuable overseas education."

Lucian's immediate grimace startled Sonya.

"Mom, don't say that again." His tolerance had reached its limit.

An awkward silence followed. Finally, Sonya said, "Roxanne should be recovered by now, right? I'm not saying she's unsuitable; she's capable, her medical skills are extraordinary. But having children with another man… it tarnishes the Farwell name."

Lucian's pupils narrowed.

"Oh, I almost forgot. Archie and Benny are actually mine and Roxanne's. They're triplets, born with Essie."

Sonya fell silent, stunned. She saw his earnest gaze and knew he wasn't joking.

"What? How could those children be yours? No, that's impossible—"
