Chapter 1693: Conclusion
After saying that, Lucian shifted the conversation, asking about Roxanne's well-being. "How do you feel now?" he inquired. He then realized he hadn't summoned a doctor and turned to Madilyn. "Could you please call the doctor?"
Madilyn nodded and, leaving the room, asked Elektra to accompany her. Lucian had been partially obscuring Roxanne's view, and Elektra had instinctively remained out of her sight, fearing upsetting her. Roxanne remained unaware of Elektra's presence until Madilyn led her out.
"She's..." Roxanne began, turning to Lucian in confusion. Assuming Elektra was Madilyn's friend, she didn't dwell on it.
After a moment, Lucian stated honestly, "She's my friend."
Roxanne stiffened. "I don't remember seeing her around." She only knew Lucian's friends from the Queen family, regardless of the passage of time. This woman was entirely unfamiliar.
Lucian explained, "She's the Lane family's daughter. The Lanes are family friends of the Farwells, but before you married into the Farwell family, they went overseas to develop their business. They didn't return during that time, and we lost contact. She only returned to the country two days ago."
Roxanne nodded, understanding. "Did she come to see you?"
She then noticed the time. It was already six in the morning. No one would visit a hospital at that hour for a social call. Moreover, Elektra seemed to have been present for some time.
Hesitation flickered across Lucian's eyes. Roxanne, intimately familiar with him, sensed something was amiss. Grabbing his sleeve, she asked, "Also, what happened to me? I remember diagnosing myself before I went into a coma, and I was showing signs of poisoning..." She had no recollection of when she'd been poisoned.
Shock registered on Lucian's face. He knew of Roxanne's medical skills, but not to this extent. His hired doctors had been ineffective, yet she had identified the cause simply by checking her own pulse.
"If you realized that, why didn't you tell me?"
Roxanne lowered her gaze, contrite. "I... I didn't think it would be this serious, and I didn't want to worry you. In the end, I still worried you so much."
Lucian was exasperated but resigned. "You have to tell me immediately if you feel unwell in the future."
Roxanne nodded meekly. "Have you found out what kind of poison it was? You must have, right? I wouldn't have woken up otherwise." Identifying the poison might reveal when she was poisoned.
Lucian nodded. "Jack used an essential oil to poison you, but they haven't determined the exact composition."
"Jack?" Roxanne was bewildered. "Why would he do that?" The Damaris family were doctors. Why would they permit Jack to poison her using medicinal herbs? And what was his motive?
