Chapter 1667: Disgusted

Peregrine's face darkened. โ€œGetting her arteries to relax will take three days. If I haven't found a solution by thenโ€ฆโ€ He trailed off, the unspoken consequence hanging heavy in the air. If Peregrine failed to devise a treatment plan within three days, Roxanne would dieโ€”a stark reality unless Lucian yielded to Jack's demands. Though mentally prepared for this possibility, Peregrine's words struck Lucian like a dagger.

Madilyn and Jonathan were shocked. Even Old Mr. Lomax couldn't help? How ruthless was Jack? They concealed their dismay. Jonathan calmly asked, โ€œOld Mr. Lomax, is there anything we can assist with?โ€

Peregrine nodded. โ€œWhereโ€™s the medical library? I need to research.โ€

Jonathan replied instantly, โ€œI know one; its books are categorized by subject, and it houses extensive collections.โ€

โ€œNo time to waste. Letโ€™s go now.โ€

Jonathan immediately led Peregrine and Frieda away. Madilyn and Lucian remained alone in the corridor.

โ€œIโ€™m going to see Roxanne. Mr. Farwell, will you join me?โ€ Madilyn asked, fighting back tears.

Lucian gazed at Roxanne, surrounded by doctors, then looked away, shaking his head. His desolation confirmed his deep love for her, moving Madilyn, yet also filling her with melancholy. Their relationship had been tumultuous.

โ€œRoxanne will be fine. I trust her; you should too,โ€ Madilyn said, turning and entering the ward, tears welling in her eyes. She rarely cried, but Roxanne was her confidante, the only person with whom she felt comfortable enough to laugh and cry freely. Now, her friend lay critically ill, and Madilyn felt lost and alone in her grief, unsure where to turn.

Approaching Roxanne's bed, Madilyn took her hand, gazing at her pale face. โ€œRoxanne, you have to hang on. Weโ€™re waiting for you. Get well soon.โ€ After composing herself, she stifled her tears, preparing to rejoin the doctors.

Lucian stood alone in the corridor, a few steps from Roxanne's bed, unable to move. Each glimpse of her face intensified his heartache. He dreaded the next three days. Failure to find a solution meant accepting Jack's termsโ€”marrying another woman and severing all ties with Roxanne. He knew she would be disgusted, despising him if she awoke to find him married to someone else.
